Felony stupid.  That’s what people call going online and admitting to felony violations of Illinois state law to Governor Pritzker’s Illinois State Police.  Yes, the very law enforcement agency tasked with enforcement of the Protect Illinois Communities Act gun and magazine ban.

From January 1 to January 16, 5867 individuals registered their banned self-defense firearms, accessories and ammunition.  Almost all did so in clear violation of state law.  Clear FELONY violation of state law.

Again, we call that felony stupid.  And those who do felony stupid things get what they deserve.

William Kirk of Washington Gun Law thinks much along the same lines as we do at GSL.

The Illinois State Police revealed those who have registered their stuff after the January 1, 2024 deadline.

You people are felony stupid.

January 1, 2024 – January 16, 2024

Number of Individuals Completing an Affidavit: 5,867
Total Affidavits: 18,532
Firearms Affidavits: 11,161
Accessory Affidavits: 7,277
Ammunition Affidavits: 94

By the way, ISP also published a “county-by-county” database of the number of persons who complied.

As William Kirk says:  These 5867 individuals have by and large made themselves the ultra-low-hanging fruit.  When Pritzker decides to grab up those registered guns and make some high-profile arrests, I all but guarantee you these 5867 individuals will be first to experience the tender loving care of the ISP enforcing this unconstitutional law.  Hope ya’all have good defense attorneys and deep pocketbooks.  You’re gonna need them.

But frankly, stupid SHOULD hurt.

  1. Looks like we now have 5,867 canaries in the coal mine. I’ll bet that nothing will happen for at least a little while, why pull the net out of the water if the fish are still trying to get in it ? They may even say “See, it’s ok nothing to worry about. it’s not too late to register !!!!”. We should all be grateful to these test pilots, once they start getting the letters / visits we’ll know where this is going.

    1. Agreed, Bill. These will be the first to fall, hard and publicly. If any of these were in Cook, Lake or Champaign counties, I would be expecting the knock on the door at any time.

I suspect they are simply biding their time now waiting to see what happens in McGlynn’s court, what the reaction to his verdict is, and how it advances toward SCOTUS when our appellate plays activist again. So in point of fact, it may not happen really quickly yet. If there is another high-profile mass-shooting in Illinois, however, all timetables are off.

  2. Maybe I should call my old girlfriend’s dad and tell him what really happened. On second thought and with concerns for my health forget it.

  3. This one baffles me. Why in God’s name would you self-incriminate yourself in this manner? Even if you suddenly found out about the existence of PICA on Jan. 2 and realized you are now a felon, why would you freely do this? ISP double-secret pinky-swearing that they won’t enforce even if you register after the deadline is pretty weak legal protection. In fact, it is NO legal protection at all, since cops are legally allowed to lie to suspects with zero jeopardy.

What’s done is done, but I simply do not understand the logic of these people here. Our government holds us in utter contempt. They aren’t going to give you a pass because you reconsidered your position, and decided to get on board with the bogus law after the fact. In truth, they will make examples of you first because you made it easy for them. I wouldn’t even count on the locals not cooperating with ISP saving you, either. Even if your local states’ attorney refuses to prosecute, and your local sheriff or police dept. refuses to cooperate, ISP can certainly refer you to Kwame the Klown for disposition. THINK, people – PLEASE!

    1. Personally, I don’t see much difference whether you registered before or after the date. I assume the way you were brow beating Jon in late December over giving them advice about whether to register, that you actually registered. You bitched and moaned, but ultimately you gave the State of Illinois tacit consent to rule over you with their statutes. That was a signed affidavit that you signed that it was uncoerced and voluntary. I don’t think complying while bitching was our nation’s founders’ recipe for change. “When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny.” (Thomas Jefferson) Obviously, the people registering their guns fall into the latter situation.

  4. Kawame will be heading downstate to prosecute his first case in Illinois…..none other Pritzger’s number one political enemy who openly defied Pritzger on social media on day one of the ban.

  5. From another source: Illinois Senate just passed a bill raising the funds allocated for revoking and collecting Firearms Owners ID cards from $2 million / year to $10 million a year.
Their House is expected to pass it and Fat Boi will sign it. The law will have immediate effect.

  6. I have no sympathy for anyone who registered their bad black guns before or after January 1st. History has shown us what happens when you appease tyrants.

  7. Not all Gun owners are smarter than the average bear. Clearly we’ve identified 5800 that are way dumber or way more naive than average.

  8. Sheepole….. That he which hath no stomach to this fight,
Let him depart; his passport shall be made,
    And crowns for convoy put into his purse;
