Chicago 4th of July Slaughter Numbers Are In

Over the Fourth of July weekend, Chicago has continued to keep its title of “World’s Largest Shooting Gallery” well-padded with murders and shootings. As of this morning (Monday) ABC News and the Chicago Police stats for the July 4th weekend currently shows 55 humans were shot and 8 killed in that 72-hour window.

Temperatures were hot and the shooters were hotter. It should have been a patriotic holiday, not an ER room triage event. The violence spanned multiple neighborhoods and included several mass shootings, with victims ranging in age from teenagers to those in their 50s.

The biggest event occurred late Wednesday night in the River North neighborhood (outside the July 4th stats), where a drive-by shooting outside Artis Restaurant and Lounge claimed four lives and injured 14 others. The attack took place during an album release party for local rapper Mello Buckzz. Two men walked up and started shooting into a crowd. Unsurprisingly, no one is in custody.

Elsewhere in the city, shootings erupted in neighborhoods like Back of the Yards, Little Village, and West Englewood. In one case, seven people were shot in a single incident on South Justine Street, including both men and women between the ages of 21 and 42.

Another shooting near the Cook County Courthouse left four men hospitalized, three of them in critical condition. These incidents just highlight the widespread violence prevalent in the city despite what the Mayor may say about “Crime is down in 2025.”
