Meet “Captain Crunch”.

It’s where anti-gun policymakers send perfectly valuable firearms to be shredded into scrap metal, robbing taxpayers of 1) the goods their money paid to produce and 2) of a means of raising money aside from raising taxes.

Meet Captain Crunch, the Pentagon’s Gun-Eating Machine

Popular Mechanics  The Department of Defense is responsible for millions of guns, from sniper rifles to pistols. Inevitably, at some point the Pentagon no longer wants them. What happens to the weapons then?

They’re fed to Captain Crunch, a giant crusher that turns military firearms into scrap metal.

Captain Crunch was put into operation in August 1993 as an efficient way to destroy unwanted firearms. Located at Anniston Army Depot in Alabama and operated by the Defense Logistics Agency, the Captain is an enormous shredder using intertwined blades that turns weapons made of wood, steel, aluminum and plastic into large pieces of junk.

…Up to 2,500 weapons a day can be scrapped by Captain Crunch. Within just six months of commencing operation, Captain Crunch had ground up 300,000 firearms, including 110,000 M1911A1 semiautomatic pistols, 132,000 rifles, and 20,000 M3 “grease gun” submachine guns. The average cost of destroying each weapon was a mere $3.26. By 1995, the total was up to 600,000 guns.

Let’s see:

110,000 M1911A1 pistols at about $1250 each:  $137.5 Million

20,000 M3s at $10,000 each:  $200 Million

132,000 rifles (Assumed to be M1903 Springfields and M1 Garands) at an average of $650 each:  $85.8 million

All told, over 1M guns have gone through the machine.  At an average of $1000 per gun, that’s a billion dollars flushed down the drain.

Oh, but they tout how selling those firearms as scrap brings in $12 million each year, while costing the government an average of $3.26 per gun to destroy them.  So, in other words, they spend scores of millions of dollars to destroy hundreds of millions of dollars worth of property and then brag about selling the scrap for $12 million per year.

Only in government could you pull that off with a straight face and keep your job.

We’d like to nominate these idiots for an award for governmental “efficiency”.

I feel better already.  Don’t you?

  1. Thanks.

Is it any wonder American voters (aside from the free shit army) are pissed off?

    1. The Free Shit Army is pissed too, they’re pissed because they aren’t getting enough free shit.

  2. You can thank Bill Clinton for the scrapping BS.
A large number of those rifles were M14’s. Some of those M14 rifles were New!

The Clinton’s scrapped our militia Rifles. Those rifles were held in reserve to arm the people and the Clinton’s had them scrapped.

I had a friend who has now passed on, told me the Clinton’s were scrapping guns so rare that that only the government had them. The NRA begged to save some of those arms for the sake of history but the Clinton’s wouldn’t have it.

I hope guys remember that come election day

  3. It’s not Captain Crunch.

    It’s the “MONEY PIT”.

    Idiots.

I’d support its use to grind up criminal turds though. More expensive than a .22 to the back of the head, but a lot more entertaining, no doubt.

    Sam
