It should have been a defensive gun use, but the victims probably didn’t have as much in the way of firepower, just as they didn’t have sufficient situational awareness to notice a trio of potential bad guys displaying pre-violence indicators.

It is terrifying that violent criminals would grab up some kids playing in a yard and hold them as hostages to gain entrance into a residence to rob the homeowners.

Deerfield, IL (Chicago Tribune) – Three robbers armed with a gun held a Lake County family captive for a few moments Thursday night while robbing them of cash and about $10,000 in jewelry, officials said Friday.

According to a report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, three males were driving through the 1100 block of Inverrary Lane in an unincorporated area near Deerfield when they spotted a young boy playing outside his house with a friend.

“Two of the three male individuals forced the two juveniles inside the victim’s residence at gunpoint,” the report reads.

  1. If you have a CCW and don’t carry at home, WHY NOT?

I like to relax when at home, and keeping that anti-home-invasion tool handy sure seems like a reasonable action to help me relax nowadays.

Another lesson reinforced during the recent FoF training by GSL Defense Training class.
