Cops nationwide are struggling to maintain duty ammunition.

Training ammunition?  Only the most prepared departments have any of that left…

How bad is it?

Police Departments Beg And Barter For Ammo While DHS Buys Up 1.6 Billion Rounds In Past Year

(CNS News) – The nationwide shortage of ammunition has left many police departments scrambling to get their hands on the necessary rounds – with some even bartering among each other.

Meanwhile, Rep. Timothy Huelskamp (R-Kansas) says the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has failed to respond to multiple members of Congress asking why DHS bought more than 1.6 billion rounds in the past year.

Police Chief Cameron Arthur of Jenks, Oklahoma says, “Ammunition and assault weapons in general have skyrocketed…In addition to the fact, not only is it a lot more expensive, but the time to get it could be six months to a year, or in some cases even longer.”

Arthur says he is waiting on an order placed last October and that many departments have begun to trade and barter with each other because of the high demand.

“Most police departments are having a very difficult time even getting the necessary ammunition for handguns, shotguns and especially rifles,” Arthur said.

  1. Feel their pain. I feel ive got a better chance of seeing elvis i a store than .223’s

  2. I would have thought some one in the police departments would have been smart enough to think there might be shortages when BHO was reelected.

    1. There were too many people who couldn’t see beyond the glowing aura when Obama got re-elected. And there were too many people who had pissy pants and didn’t bother voting simply because Romney wasn’t their ideal of the man they wanted. Instead they let Obama waltz back in the door. How much sense did that make?

    2. It made perfect sense cuz Romney is a gun grabber too. Just like Romney is a government imposed health insurance guy. Just like Romney is a global warming guy and and and.

If we are going to endure progressive assaults on the Constitution then make the Democrat Brand own it with candidates with (D) behind their names.

Two elections in a row the GOP has been SHOWN that as a whole, this country REJECTS this idea that the (R) has to be more like Demicrats in order to succeed in elections.

It ought try listening. It ought try something new. You know, like putting their candidates where their claims are. Put forth a candidate willing to do what Ted Ceuz did to DiFi- stand up to the tomfoolery of progressive liberalism openly honestly and directly. Rather than the go along to get along Demicrat lite, try individual liberty based constitutionalism and just watch what happens.

      Can you say landslide?

I’m glad Romneys not president. I’m glad The Usurper remains to face his scandalous and treasonous treachery. I’m even glad Bloomberg couomo and hickenlooper are pulling their crap too. Heck I’m even glad Madigan and Quinn are doing what they are doing too. Know why?

They are doing a better job of turning this nation against the Democraric machine than “Republican” campaigns.

    3. You were listening to the left weren’t you. We could have made more progress with Romney than we ever will with Obama. I can’t see blowing it to smithereens and then starting from scratch.

  3. I doubt few people reading GSL today will remember when the Champaign County Rifle Association used to be the only one on the internet tracking the global gun grab agenda in the late 1990s.

The removal of arms AND ammunition from police departments was a part of UN missions across the Balkans in the 1990s.

Wouldn’t it be great if someone at GLS re-posted those pictures of police officers being disarmed and marched past UN troops?

It might help your Sheriff, State Police, and National Guard understand what is coming.

      9. SFOR support has been provided to IPTF in its inspection of civilian police stations. All parties have been seeking to store inappropriate weapons. To date, the joint inspections have resulted in the discovery and subsequent destruction by SFOR of approximately 115 mines, 40 anti-tank weapons, 100 machine-guns and over 350 rifles.

Cooperation and Compliance by the Parties

      5. The Parties have remained in general overall compliance with the military aspects of the Peace Agreement. However, unauthorized weapons continue to be confiscated, partly as a result of the joint inspections of police stations which were carried out by IFOR and the UN International Police Task Force (IPTF) over the past month. These inspections resulted in the confiscation and destruction of a large number of unauthorized weapons, mainly small arms and ammunition, although numerous mines and light mortars were also discovered. In addition, over the past month, during weapons storage site inspections, discrepancies in inventories were found and various types of undeclared weapons, again mainly small arms, were confiscated, together with ammunition.
