stupid-thingssm

Sometimes, you can do everything right in life and still get victimized.  Take this line of vehicles waiting for oil changes at a certain big box retailer in Normal, Illinois.  Every last one of them had their keys conveniently located in the door lock.

I snapped this photo and then went inside to get some crushed Heath bars for my lovely bride to make some "Better than Sex" cake.  I found someone in management, showed them the picture and then they took me to someone a little higher up in the food chain.  "You see a problem in this picture?  In putting people's keys in their door locks?"

You can do everything right, but if some idiot decides that leaving your keys in your car door is a great idea while you're blissfully inside doing your last-minute Christmas shopping, you might still get your car or the stuff therein stolen.

  1. Or they take your house key and get your address off the insurance card or registration. Then go rob your house while you are out, or worse you are home.

  2. Similar thing happened to me recently. I was in a large retail store and they have a lady walking around signing people up for their store credit card (discount if you passed). She finished with a guy and turned to me and started the same sales push. I quickly and politely told her no and I do not use credit cards. She kept pushing the issue (must be on commission). I glanced around to make sure others would not over hear (except the guy that just signed up) and I told her there is no way I was giving my personal information out in public and that I don't think it is right that (store) encourages this out in public. She asked why and I noticed the guys ears perk up when I said well just like (guy's name) there, I know his DOB, address, I know that his wife is in another store in the mall shopping and has no kids living at home and other personal info. Someone with bad intentions could easily use all the info he just told you for very bad reasons.

  3. Normal, IL, where the city planners didn't plan for their round-a-bout in their downtown area properly, as the turn is too small to allow for some of their fire engines to be able to get through it.
