Mark Kirk, the generally despicable anti-gun Republican junior Senator from Illinois, has lost a pair of endorsements from the left.  It's happened because of the brouhaha over a flippant remark on Kirk's part at the debate between Kirk and his opponent Tammy Duckworth.  The Americans for Responsible Solutions – Gabby Giffords' front group that took a humiliating drubbing this year in the Illinois General Assembly with their gun rationing, dealer licensing scheme – withdrew their effectively meaningless endorsement of Kirk.  Also, the Human Rights Campaign did much the same.

What's this all about?  Well, at the debate, Tammy Duckworth continued to remind the audience in every third sentence that she was a veteran and at one point, when discussing family, Duckworth mentioned that she was a veterans and her entire family have been veterans.  Kirk made an off-hand remark to the effect, "I’d forgotten that your parents came all the way from Thailand to serve George Washington."

The left has ginned up the outrage machine and declared Kirk's remark beyond the pale in their fascist pursuit of pure thought and called Kirk everything except "decent".  And here comes the ARS and HRC (not Hill Rod Clinton, by the way) to withdraw their feeble endorsements.

On one hand, it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.  Mark Kirk represents the polar opposite of Donald Trump in virtually every category.  On the other, meaningless endorsements withdrawn are, well, meaningless.  Except for the oxygen of publicity given to the increasingly irrelevant mainstream media.

Newsweek, the failed left-wing news magazine limping along online, has the story:

Mark Kirk Loses Endorsements from Gun Control, Gay Rights Groups

Two leading advocacy groups, one fighting for stronger gun legislation and another for LGBT rights, have revoked their endorsements of U.S. Senator Mark Kirk after the Illinois Republican seemed to mock his Democratic opponent’s background last week.

During a debate October 27, the incumbent cast doubt on the military and ethnic heritage of his rival, U.S. Representative Tammy Duckworth. “I’d forgotten that your parents came all the way from Thailand to serve George Washington,” he said in response to her summary of how her family has served the country in uniform dating back to the American Revolution. After Kirk’s response, the moderator quickly moved on to the next question.

I can't speak for HRC as a gay rights group, but calling back benchers Americans for Responsible Solutions a "Leading advocacy group" is wishful thinking at best, and more likely media malpractice.

  1.    I will realy hate voting for that POS Kirk but I will just to help keep a "R" majority in the senate.  Well I guess Duckworthless is actually even worse but this is a terrible race to pick from.

  2. Chad Koppie, a constitutional conservative, is an authorized write-in, for those who are interested in someone else.

  3. Not voting for Kirk… he's a RINO asshat.

Rodney Davis has turned out to be the same, not voting for him either.

  4. I do not like Kirk, but whichever party controls the Senate confirms Supreme Court justices and federal judges.  Do you want Chuck Schumer and the Dems in charge if that?  A vote for anyone other than Kirk is a vote for an anti 2nd Amendment Supreme Court.  The time to vote against Kirk was in the primary, not now.

    1. Then I'd say to Kirk and Davis that the time to oppose Trump was in the primary, not now.  Yet they are both effectively supporting Hillary.
