You know, there are low-information politicians and then their are anti-gun low-information politicians.
And then there’s Kirstin R. Running Hyphen Marquardt.
She was quoted by a local TV station as saying: “What this bill does, the bill before us, allows for 1-year-olds, 2-year-olds, 3-year-olds, 4-year-olds to operate handguns. We do not need a militia of toddlers. We do not have handguns that I am aware of that fit the hands of a 1- or 2-year-old.”
Running Hyphen Marquardt’s upset about a bill in the Iowa legislature that would repeal Iowa’s prohibition on under 14s even handling a handgun, even under careful adult supervision. The bill would allow youngsters to handle and shoot handguns under the supervision of a parent or guardian. It looks like it’s going to pass overwhelmingly – even over the hysterics of special snowflake social justice warriors like Running Hyphen Marquardt.
Again, all the bill does is allow for parents to make the choice if and when their child is mature and responsible enough to fire an appropriate handgun, instead of the state.
Why is Running Hyphen so upset over young people having an opportunity to shoot handguns?
See above. Because they will experience the fun and excitement of shooting and become life-long shooters.
After having worked with the kids at the NRA Youth Camp I can say that they are ever bit as capable and responsible in taking instruction than the adults we work with. Also, teaching youngsters a vigorous safety protocol is by far and away the best way to prevent youth related injuries. As usual, the Running Hyphen is reacting based on emotion rather than experience or logic.
Running Hyphen’s going to go after spoons and forks next.
Right after someone teaches her how to dress like something besides white trash.

Aside from this crazy woman, I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone suggest 1-, 2- or 3-year-olds shoot real guns. She must think people are incapable of using common sense… and nanny-state government must micromanage our lives.
I don’t know if she’s going after spoons next, but sugary drinks and other Bloomberg nanny-state controls? You bet.

It’s spot the Fallacy day… Toddler Militia… Rather than use a reasonable understanding of the law, she draws it to an irrational extreme, declares that unacceptable, and throws the whole thing under the bus. This is what liberals do, because a reasonable discussion of the proposal would defeat her every time. I have worked with the kids at Darnall’s NRA youth camp and two things happen every summer. I get sunburned, and then refreshed at the maturity and talents of our youth. These kids are careful, safe, respectful, talented and a joy to work with. We should invite Miss Runs-her-mouth to see a day of it. She wouldn’t come, because changing her mind is not in her plans, she already knows what we all need….
