California’s rabidly-anti-gun Senator Barbara Boxer made a rather ill-considered comment yesterday:  “Sensible gun laws work, we’ve proven it in California, and we’re not gonna give up.”

Yes, indeed.  Those California “sensible” restrictions on Californians’ right to keep and bear arms certainly saved all those people dead and injured from Muslims on a jihad against Western Civilization, now didn’t they?

In all fairness, she points to crime stats that show that “gun deaths” – which include suicides – dropped about 50% in California from 1993 to 2010.  Two important facts were omitted in her cherry-picking.

1. People intent on killing themselves will find a way to do it.  They are clever like that.

2.  Homicide rates for the entire nation dropped about the same amount, even those who didn’t follow California’s example of burdening their law-abiding residents with onerous gun rights restrictions.  If I had more time, I’d research if homicides actually increased in California during that time which could have happened if suicides using guns declined more than the national average.

What’s next?   Is she going to claim her precious gun control laws allowed the sun to rise tomorrow?
