Low-information voters elect low-information politicians.  It’s true.

Despite being arrested on drug and murder charges, an East Chicago city councilman was re-elected to his office in Tuesday’s elections.

(Breitbart) – East Chicago 3rd District Councilman Robert “Coop” Battle cruised to re-election even though he is accused in the Oct. 12 shooting of Reimundo Camarillo Jr. That isn’t all. As The Munster Times reports, the councilman is also facing drug charges stemming from a traffic stop earlier in the year.

Police say that Councilman Battle was found with 73 pounds of marijuana and more than $100,000 cash during a traffic stop in Porter County, Indiana.

Even with all this legal trouble on his plate, no one filed to run against him, and he won re-election on Tuesday with his unopposed candidacy.

…Apparently, Battle didn’t even vote in his own election. As Lake County Sheriff John Buncich reported, Battle did not request an absentee ballot to vote from the jail.

    1. DRAGAN: This was EAST Chicago, Lake County, Indiana. I grant you it’s not much different (East Chicago has been corrupt since the 20s), but it’s not Chicago, Cook County, or Illinois.

  1. You know, it isn’t Chicago, but then again, Chicago has a long and proud tradition of re-electing scandal plagues pols, including convicted criminals, to office.

    1. Sure, but that’s not the point. If I read an article about Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, I don’t conflate it with Detroit, Michigan.
The clues, besides the fact that the article clearly said “East” Chicago (no such town in Cook County or Illinois) included “3rd District Councilman.” Chicago has wards, not districts, and aldermen, not councilmen.
You should read the story before you have your knee-jerk reaction.
Besides, Chicago isn’t really the hellhole many people think it is. It has nice neighborhoods, great restaurants, and fine museums. It’s still a great city. East Chicago is, doesn’t, and isn’t.
(Sorry. I have many fine memories of the years I spent in Chicago, and while I know all about its problems, I still get PO’d when people who have never been there badmouth it undeservedly, either from ignorance or just on GP.)

    2. Who cares about how “nice” Chitcago is. Who wants to support such a liberal hell hole with one’s presence and money? They want to tax everything that doesn’t move, and most things that do. They hate guns, and now at least one of the fools wants to tax ammo.
Want to try telling us again how nice it is?

  2. KK:
First of all, this article is about something that happened in EAST CHICAGO, INDIANA, not CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
Secondly, I never said Chicago isn’t corrupt. So is every city in the United States, to some degree.
Thirdly, I feel sorry for you. If you judge every place by its politics, you’ll never go into a large city, because they’re all run by corrupt politicians (usually Democrats). That means you’ll never have a truly great meal that Mama didn’t cook, you’ll never see a great work of art, and you’ll never enjoy an ethnic festival.
If I took you to Chicago and you kept an open mind, you could have the time of your life. You might hear people speaking Polish, Spanish, Korean, or Tagalog, but you would leave town with a full tummy and no extra holes in you.

  3. The Democratic Party doesn’t care if he gets convicted or not. If he does the local party leadership will hand pick his replacement, who will probably be re-elected next time. The people have already had their say, “We don’t care.”
