(Jacksonville (NC) Daily News) – A Stella homeowner shot an armed intruder in the abdomen after he roused a couple while crawling near their bed early Monday morning, according to information from Onslow County Sheriff’s Office.
Gaberail Denton Wright, 21, was in critical condition Monday afternoon at Vidant Health in Greenville, a Vidant spokeswoman told The Daily News.
Wright was laying on his side on the front porch of the home on Belgrade Swansboro Road when deputies arrived about 3:30 a.m. Monday, according to information from the sheriff’s office.
“It appears he was trying to get away,” Onslow Sheriff Hans Miller said.
Well, if he’s laying around on his side on the front porch, then he’s not any too good at playing the role of escape artist, either.

KTHV reported on the rural Faulkner County home invasion, where a couple broke into an occupied dwelling at about 3:30am. The male half of the intruding duo went for a shotgun standing in the corner of the room and advanced towards the bedroom.
A guest sleeping on the couch woke to the commotion shot Mr. Intruder as he pointed the shotgun at the female homeowner. The female half of the intruders then hit the guest in the back with something before the interlopers made a hasty retreat from the house, only to be picked up when the male half went to get his wounds treated at a nearby hospital.
Stacy Wright, 38, is in jail and Johnathan Hill, 36, will likely be joining her when he’s released from the hospital.
