There’s an old myth that guns don’t belong in bars.

Of course, we all agree that intoxicated people shouldn’t be packing heat.  It should be a personal choice for the rest of society’s law-abiding folks and I’ll tell you why:  Because good guys with guns are the only thing that can stop a bad guy with evil in his heart.

Such was the case after a 21-year-old was ejected at 2am from a bar in Youngstown, Ohio.

He returned a short time later with a shotgun, firing off a couple of rounds, intent on getting revenge for earlier perceived slight(s).

It was at least the third shooting at the establishment this year.  Thankfully, this time an employee of the bar was carrying his licensed concealed carry handgun.  He put an end to the nonsense before there were lots of dead people laying around.

YOUNGSTOWN (Youngstown Vindicator) — Police say the man killed at an Oak Street bar at 2 a.m. Sunday was shot by a bar employee who has a valid concealed carry handgun permit.

Chief of Detectives Capt. Brad Blackburn said Ezequiel Rivera, 21, was killed after he was kicked out of Mi Raza bar and came back with a shotgun and fired two rounds. He was then shot by a bar employee who has the CCW permit, Blackburn said.

According to a release from Mahoning County Coroner David Kennedy’s office, an autopsy on Rivera is scheduled for Tuesday.

Mr. Rivera’s brother-in-law was wounded by the concealed carry licensee.  He was supposedly trying to “defuse” the situation.

  1. Being in bars at 2:00AM is not the type of risk mitigation I recommend for folks with CC permits or, for that matter, anyone else.

  2. Youngstown has an organized (and un-organized) crime problem for years. The major industries left a wile back and population has been on the decline for years.

A friend of mine used to work as a delivery guy for a work uniform laundry service – making deliveries at 2AM. He got pulled over his first night on the job. Confused, he asked the officer what he did wrong.

The officer proceeded to tell him that they (the Police) knew his company, and that from now on he was never to stop at an intersection after dark for his own safety. He told him the risk of carjacking was too great, and that they wouldn’t pull him over for it as long as he was in his work vehicle. “Slow down enough to be safe, but keep moving. Don’t stop for the lights.”

    Welcome to youngstown.. lol
