Even a broken clock is right twice each day.

(NY Post) – Mayor Bloomberg claimed that people of color should be stopped and frisked more — not less — while whites are stopped too frequently.

“I think we disproportionately stop whites too much and minorities too little. It’s exactly the reverse of what they say,” Bloomberg said on his weekly radio show, in response to the City Council passing two bills aimed at reining in the controversial policing tactic.

“I don’t know where they went to school but they certainly didn’t take a math course. Or a logic course.”

The mayor was referring to statistics showing that a majority of serious crimes in the city are carried out by young men of color.

Ouch.

Talk about touching the third rail politically.

Statistics don’t lie.

Of course candidates for New York’s mayor tried to top one another in criticizing Bloomberg’s comment, pandering to the low-information voting block that will determine NYC’s next mayor.

“As a New Yorker, as a father, as a son of the city, I found Mayor Bloomberg’s comments today on his radio show to be outrageous and insulting.”

He finds the truth outrageous and insulting?

Okay.  Go stick your head back into the sand and continue to advocate victim disarmament as the solution to the problem of violent crime.

UPDATE:  Just a add a note:  Our only comment is on Bloomberg pointing out the racial component of violent crime, not “stop and frisk” which we are adamantly opposed to (just as we’re opposed to DUI checkpoints and similar government intrusion).

  1. Wow just wow.

I can’t belive this blog that claims to support people’s civil rights supports this policy of stop and frisk.

This article does more harm than good to the gun communities cause.

I am a black man college educated never arrested father and husband. I have been stopped and frisked in NYC for no other reason than being a black male.

I hope this policy is found unconstitutional and the city’s police department is put under federal supervision.

Long time gun owner here that fully supports our constitution and all of the bill of rights even the 4th amendment.

Very disappointed in this article and analysis by the author.

    1. We didn’t say we supported stop and frisk.

We found it amazing that Bloomberg would identify blacks as being responsible, disproportionately, for violent crimes.

      RIF, sir.

  2. Does the author of this article support DNA samples from all men be kept on file as men overwhelmingly commit most rapes and it would be a great tool in solving rapes?

This article goes aginst what this blog claims to support. This is the reason why many African American gun owners aren’t more active in shooting sports and political advocacy for gun rights. The racist tone or racionlizing violating the rights of others is very telling and casts doubt on those that support the violation of civil rights for “security”. This is literally the same argument anti-gunners make in there push for civilian gun bans, AWB, may restrictions and registration schemes.

Again I say this article and analysis needs to be rethought as it smacks of white privilege and elitism and the total disregard for others rights. It’s policies like stop and frisk and big gulp bans that are 100% anti American.

    1. It *might* help in solving crimes, but it goes against our “innocent until PROVEN guilty” system.

Obviously, as such it’s unacceptable to maintain a database of gun registration or DNA registration…

  3. If you dictate policy that has no credible or consistent basis you can waffle all you want.

  4. As a pro-2A person, Mayor Bloomberg does not carry much weight in the logic department. The idea that the police (or any part of our government) has the right to stop and detain a person with out cause is wrong. Skin color is not proof of a crime or intention to commit a crime.
All I know is that any law abiding gun owning citizen is welcome in the state of Texas.

  5. Stop and frisk violates the constitution. Period! No person should be subject to this anywhere. It is my understanding that this mainly occurs in minority neighborhoods in NYC. Why has this not been litigated? If it has I am not aware of it. I am sure that if this were occurring in predominately white neighborhoods there would be an immediate outcry. When any American loses their civil rights we all lose.

  6. If we left it up to Obama and Bloomberg we would have no amendments to the constitution. We would all be living in a police state! I am 63 yrs old and have never seen an assault on the constitution like I have with this administration. I was a life long dem, but this administration is being lead by socialists. Obama has his own agenda and it is not to make this country better.
