So Monday, Chicago’s police chief Garry McCarthy, affectionately know to his men as McSh*tforbrains, touted the drop in crime this year in Chicago.
Chicago (Sun-Times) – There was a 13 percent dip in overall crime and 3,000 fewer illegal weapons on the streets of Chicago this year, announced Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy on Monday.
“We’re having a good year in comparison to where we’ve been in the past in this city,” said McCarthy at the Harrison district headquarters, behind two tables of handguns, assault rifles and other recently confiscated weapons. “We have a historical gun violence problem here, and right now we’re making real progress.”
Meanwhile, elsewhere in Chicago later the same day, Monday:
Chicago (Sun Times) – One woman was killed and at least 11 people were wounded by gunfire in separate shootings across the city Monday afternoon and evening.
Five people were shot about 4:55 p.m. in a drive-by attack in the 5700 block of South Sangamon, Chicago Police said. An 18-year-old woman was shot in the throat and died. A 15-year-old boy was shot in the right leg; an 18-year-old man in the abdomen; a 20-year-old man in the left hand and right knee, and a 21-year-old man in the left leg, police said.
And the following day, Tuesday, how did things work out?
Chicago (Tribune) – Two men were killed and at least 10 people were injured in shootings across the city that started Tuesday evening and continued into this morning, according to police.
