The contrast in Illinois is stark.

Urban dependency culture voters in Chicago vote for Santa Claus in the form of Democrats, even when those Democrats are under federal investigation for corruption and various scandals.

Jesse Jackson Jr. for instance:

As expected, Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Chicago) cruised to an easy victory with 63 percent of the vote in the Second Congressional District, despite having been absent from work since June. Jackson has also been under two separate federal investigations in the last few months: One regarding his role in Rod Blagojevich’s attempt to sell the Senate seat, and another regarding his mismanagement of campaign funds for personal use.

Jackson allegedly used campaign funds to buy a $40,000 watch for his girlfriend.

Report: Jesse Jackson Jr. in plea deal talks

(CBS News) – Democratic Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., who on Tuesday won re-election in Illinois’ second district with 63 percent support, is engaged in discussions with the FBI concerning a plea deal over his alleged misuse of campaign funds, according to a report in the Chicago Sun Times.

CBS News has confirmed the FBI is investigating Jackson. The investigation is just one of the problems plaguing the congressman this year: After acknowledging last month that he is “not well,” Jackson reportedly returned to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, where he spent four weeks during the summer being treated for bipolar depression.

He’s probably wishing infidelity was the only thing he had to deal with.

And then there’s Derrick Smith, the first member of the Illinois General Assembly expelled for bribery charges, was re-elected by nearly a 2-1 margin.

Chicago (WLS) — Despite the fact he was indicted on bribery charges and expelled from the Illinois House, State Representative Derrick Smith was re-elected in the 10th District.

Smith easily defeated Unity candidate Lance Tyson.

Smith didn’t have a big party Tuesday night. But he won big.

“Thank God first,” said Smith. “And I want to thank my mother for praying so hard for me through all of this.”

The indicted Smith now goes back to Springfield. His Chicago office will once again wear his name on the front door.

Smith’s trial is coming up in early 2013, so his days in the House are probably numbered.  In any event, Democrats all say, “the voters have spoken.”

While Chicago voters are voting for more of the same for themselves, the rest of Illinois is quite another story as ten counties voted to allow right-to-carry.  Sadly though, while the “voters have spoken”, in this case they are only advisory referendums.

10 Illinois counties say they want concealed carry

(Journal Gazette and Times Courier) – Residents in some Illinois counties sent a message to lawmakers this week: Give citizens the right to carry concealed weapons.

Measures supporting concealed carry were on the ballot Tuesday in at least 10 mostly rural counties _ Adams, Bond, Henry, McDonough, Mercer, Randolph, Rock Island, Schuyler, Stephenson and Warren _ and passed overwhelmingly in every one.

The votes were non-binding because local law cannot override state law. But advocates say they hope to build pressure on lawmakers to support concealed carry.

Illinois is the only state where carrying a concealed weapon is entirely illegal.

“I think the message will be heard,” because some counties that voted on the issue were in more Democrat-leaning northwest parts of the state, said Valinda Rowe, spokeswoman for IllinoisCarry, a group that tracks gun-rights advocacy around the state. She lives in rural White County in southeastern Illinois.

  1. With the election in Illinois done and the veto proof Democratic party now entrenched in Springfield we may as well forget HB148 and the right of OUR CITIZENS TO PROTECT themselves. It is a shame on our state and all its citizens that we have forgotten what the 2nd Amendment means
