First up, a self-admitted drunk, arrested for wife-beating editorial board member of the Chicago Sun-Times writes a child-like piece advocating legalization of hand grenades to grab attention (and readers) for the Sun-Times in his quest to ban America’s favorite rifle – a gun, in sheer numbers, that’s far more popular than America’s best-selling pickup truck, the Ford F-150.

He probably wrote the first draft in Crayon:

Steinberg: Ban assault rifles? Let’s legalize grenades instead

…”Guns are a kind of masturbatory aid in the elaborate heroic fantasies of millions of Americans, who imagine themselves supermen.”

Yeah, consider the source as they say at the IL GUNLOBBY Facebook page.  (By the way, “LIKE” that page on Facebook and keep up to date on Illinois gun lobby news.)

Columnist charged with abuse

Chicago (Tribune) – Chicago Sun-Times columnist and editorial board member Neil Steinberg could face jail time if he is convicted of domestic battery charges related to an incident involving his wife last week.

Steinberg, 45, of Northbrook was arrested about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday in his home after his wife, Edie, called 911 and reported abuse, said Sgt. Michael Keady of the Northbrook Police Department. Steinberg spent the night in jail and posted bail Thursday.

Edie Steinberg had first tried to call emergency services on another telephone, but Neil Steinberg hit that phone out of her hand, causing minor injuries, Keady said.

She was able to call 911 on another phone, he said.

Steinberg was charged with one count of domestic battery and one count of interfering with the reporting of domestic battery. Both are misdemeanors and carry sentences of up to a year in jail, Keady said.

And the Chicago Tribune couldn’t wait to chime in with their own brand of stupid.  We can’t help but wonder if their editorial board has wife-beating drunks too.

Editorial:  What to do about assault weapons

On what grounds can the country justify giving citizens the ability to fire off 30 or more rounds in a near burst? — Chicago Tribune Editorial Board

…Limiting magazines to eight or 10 rounds would hinder mass shooters while imposing minimal inconvenience on law-abiding gun owners.

IL GUNLOBBY summed it up nicely:  “How about you guys go back to using typewriters.”

I’ll expand upon that to say perhaps they should go back to using colonial-era printing presses as well.
