CHICAGO (New York Times) — Late at night this month, the pastor’s phone beeped with a text message from an anguished parishioner. Andre Taylor, the church member’s great-nephew, had been shot and killed.

“Dre had just turned 16,” the message on the Rev. Ira Acree’s phone read. “I think that it’s time to call for action and solicit help, have the National Guard to take over and patrol the Chicago streets.

Why is it people like the good reverend always want someone else to clean up their community’s problems?

Here’s a better idea:  Tell your congregation to stop covering for the problem children in your community, Rev. Acree.

Four days earlier, another text had appeared. A different parishioner’s granddaughter, Daysha Wright, a 21-year-old nursing student, had been shot to death in a car, leaving a 2-year-old son.

At his desk at Greater St. John Bible Church, Mr. Acree said he was bracing himself for the coming months. “Unless something radical takes place, it’s going to be a blood bath this summer,” he said.

It probably will be.

However, when the average shooting victim has multiple arrests and has led a life of crime (or acted a fringe criminal life), you can’t be surprised when the average American doesn’t get too excited about their early expiration.

Until and unless the “Snitches Get Stitches” culture is replaced with “Thugs Get Slugs”, pervasive crime will continue.

  1. Don’t tell me…let me guess…this young Dre feller was just starting to turn his life around

  2. How long before the people who live in the areas under military control with be screaming you can’t detain me, lock me in my home. What curfew? I am an adult.
    Nanny state.

  3. No homicides on Easter Sunday? Pure dumb luck.

It wasn’t because all the good the criminal class were all at church and then breaking breax with their families (especially their fathers!).

  4. IF those communities demand 10-20-life for all crimes with a gun and call out Their Gangs as a problem.

  5. A community is only as safe as they demand it be and are willing to be the catalyst for change when needed, but we need to understand for the 3rd & 4th generation criminal family its not easy to speak out, I pray they will see that they must.

  6. You’ve chased off good cops with your Black Lives Matter crap, now you want the national guard to take over? You’ve made your bed, now lie in it.

  7. Well. What do
You know. Slobamma. Just turned loose 61. Criminals some were in for life and this dumb ass turned them
Loose —— is this the same guy THEY. Elected for our president ??? Amazing !!!!! Get ready. Hang on. I guess they might as well turn them loose. Most of them from Chicago don’t go away for long anyway. ….
