In a move that reeks of desperate grandstanding and peak performative politics, Chicago Moron Mayor Brandon Johnson—ever the self-anointed crusader against anything resembling actual law enforcement—signed his laughably named “ICE on Notice” executive order over the weekend. This masterpiece of virtue-signaling directs Chicago’s already overstretched police department to play detective against federal ICE and Border Patrol agents, sniffing around for any whiff of “felony violations” to refer for prosecution. Because nothing says “public safety” like turning local cops into anti-federal snitches while the city drowns in real crime.

Johnson puffed out his chest and declared this stunt makes Chicago the “first city in the country to set the groundwork to prosecute ICE and Border Patrol agents for criminal misconduct.” Groundwork? More like quicksand. He even bragged that Cook County State’s Attorney Eileen O’Neill Burke’s office is supposedly all-in—conveniently because, as he whined, they haven’t prosecuted anyone yet due to “no evidence” being provided. Shocking that actual crimes require actual proof, but go off, Your Honor.

But wait!  Burke says, “Not so fast!”

The mayor framed this as a heroic stand against President Donald Trump’s so-called “authoritarian regime,” as if enforcing federal immigration law is now the equivalent of storming the Bastille. Meanwhile, Chicago’s streets tell a different story—one where violent crime, carjackings, and chaos are the real daily headlines, not imaginary federal overreach.

Predictably, the backlash was swift and savage. Chicago Republican Party Chairman Chuck Hernandez, a former CPD detective who actually knows what police work looks like, called it out for the pathetic ploy it is: “All it does is create more hostility and chaos.” He added that Johnson is delusional if he thinks rank-and-file officers will cheer this on. “He wants to foment hate for law enforcement and our federal law enforcement partners, and the police don’t want any part of this.”

Then came the mic-drop from Fraternal Order of Police President John Catanzara Jr., who didn’t mince words: “The only good thing in that piece of toilet paper is ‘no CPD member will be required to arrest any federal agents.’” He torched the mayor’s office for breathtaking incompetence, pointing out the order’s clueless claim that most immigration violations are merely civil—when first-time illegal entry is a misdemeanor (up to six months in jail) and repeat offenses escalate to felonies (up to two years). “Can the people running the city be any dumber?” Catanzara asked, a question Chicagoans have been screaming for years.

Catanzara also highlighted the order’s sneaky reporting requirement: if cops spot alleged wrongdoing by federal agents, they have to file reports. Fair enough, he said—let’s make it a two-way street. “Citizens can also be named offenders.” In other words, if this clown show opens the door to weaponizing police reports, don’t be surprised when it boomerangs.

In the end, this “ICE on Notice” fiasco is classic Mayor Moron Johnson: a flashy, futile gesture that solves zero problems, alienates the police he desperately needs, and reminds everyone why Chicago’s crime stats keep climbing while the mayor chases viral headlines. Keep grasping for relevance, Mr. Mayor—it’s entertaining, if nothing else.

Here’s TCS’ report:

(The Center Square) – Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has signed an executive order directing members of the city’s police department to investigate federal law enforcement and refer evidence of felony violations for prosecution.

The mayor signed the “Ice on Notice” order on Saturday and said it was a step toward justice.

“This executive order will make Chicago the first city in the country to set the groundwork to prosecute ICE and border patrol agents for criminal misconduct,” Johnson said.

The mayor said Cook County State’s Attorney Eileen O’Neill Burke’s office is in complete support of the executive order…

Chicago Republican Party Chairman Chuck Hernandez, a former Chicago Police Department detective, said the executive order smacks of desperation from a mayor grasping for relevance.

“All it does is create more hostility and chaos,” Hernandez told The Center Square.

Hernandez said the mayor is delusional to think police would support the order.

“He wants to foment hate for law enforcement and our federal law enforcement partners, and the police don’t want any part of this,” Hernandez said.

Chicago Fraternal Order of Police President John Catanzara Jr. provided a statement about Johnson’s order to The Center Square.

“The only good thing in that piece of toilet paper is ‘no CPD member will be required to arrest any federal agents,’” Catanzara said.

The John Dineen Lodge #7 leader said the order is just more political bluster from city hall.
