Corie A. Walsh of Frankfort, Illinois, has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder after her two-year-old son, Barrett (“Bear”), was found hanging from a basement rafter on September 1, 2026. A neighbor discovered the toddler with a ligature around his neck, feet off the ground, cold and pulseless.
This wasn’t a destitute mother, living in poverty, stressed trying to figure out where the next meal was going to come from and an physically abusive husband/boyfriend/baby daddy who beats her like a pinata for fun and games. This was a woman living in a wealthy subdivision in a McMansion, living what should have been something approaching the American dream. It was too much for his crazed lunatic monster.
Autopsy findings pointed to asphyxia from ligature compression of the neck. Walsh’s husband was out of town; an infant and two school-age children in the household were unharmed. Officers found Walsh attempting self-harm.
Thank the Lord she didn’t decide to off the rest of her kids before she pretended to try to kill herself. I’m surprised she didn’t jump out of the second floor window like Clancy admits.

Prosecutors say Walsh told authorities she killed the boy because she believed he was “the devil” and “the anti-Christ.” Witnesses reported she had become “very invested” in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial and was discussing that case in a group chat hours earlier, while the Massachusetts jury was still deliberating. Clancy, a former nurse, admitted strangling her three children in 2023 and claimed postpartum psychosis; her trial ended in a mistrial on September 4 after a hung jury. Walsh’s lawyer has already framed the Illinois killing as a “psychotic episode” and a family tragedy.

That framing does not erase what happened. A mother who watched another woman’s child-killing case, then hanged her own toddler from a rafter while calling him the devil, is not a sympathetic figure. She is a monster. The Clancy spectacle did not force her hand; it apparently supplied a script. A two-year-old is dead because the adult charged with protecting him chose to treat him as an embodiment of evil and kill him. Illinois now has to prosecute that choice. Mental-illness claims may be litigated in court. They do not make the act any less monstrous or the victim any less dead.
The anti-Christ was the mother, not the innocent toddler. Too bad Illinois doesn’t have the death penalty.
