Sorry Liberals, A Violent Response To Trump Is As Logical As Any

(Huff Post) – The rise of Donald Trump has exposed the frightening underbelly of America’s foulest tendencies. Our racism, nativism, xenophobia, misogyny, Islamophobia, ableism, and propensity toward authoritarianism have been laid bare.

Can you spell projection?

Psychological projection is a theory in psychology in which humans defend themselves against their own unconscious impulses or qualities (both positive and negative) by denying their existence in themselves while attributing them to others.

Then comes the money quote:

…In the face of media, politicians, and GOP primary voters normalizing Trump as a presidential candidate—whatever your personal beliefs regarding violent resistance—there’s an inherent value in forestalling Trump’s normalization. Violent resistance accomplishes this.

First off, to suggest using force against those you disagree with to suppress their speech and beliefs seems a little like fascism, does it not?

Fascism:

  • : a way of organizing a society in which a government ruled by a dictator controls the lives of the people and in which people are not allowed to disagree with the government

  • : very harsh control or authority

I remind the author of this Huffington Post piece, Mr. Benn, that if violence is a legitimate tool for the left to use, then it is a legitimate tool for everyone to use.

Why should Trump supporters feel the need to constrain themselves when faced with unrestrained violence against them, particularly when the authorities are unable, or unwilling to stop those unprovoked attacks?

In short, civility won’t last long if the government won’t enforce the rule of law.  If the government won’t restore and maintain order, law-abiding good guys with guns will.

Mr. Benn and his pals and Huff Post might be biting off more than they can chew if they really want to go down this road.
