One of the greats in firearm invention passed away at 94 in Russia today.

Russia Today reports that Mikhail Kalashnikov has passed away.

Kalashnikov is the Russians’ John Browning, famous for inventing and refining the AK-47 rifle, along with the AKM and AK-74.

  1. I read somewhere that he basically copied the German Sturmgewehr assault rifle from WWII. They certainly look similar.

  2. I hate the team he was on but got to hand it to him, he did come up with one hell of a battle firearm. cheap, easy to use, rugged, accurate enough for the job, simple to maintain, etc.
