Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan is taking another run at “may issue” carry today.  He’s got himself another shell bill that’s been converted into a “may issue” bill sponsored by a rabid gun grabber Rep. Kelly Cassidy.

ISRA is urging folks to contact their Representatives and remind them it is “SHALL ISSUE” or nothing at all.

URGENT ALERT – YOUR IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED

GUN GRABBERS TRY TO HIJACK CONCEALED CARRY

YOU MUST MAKE PHONE CALLS IMMEDIATELY

Rabid gun grabber Rep. Kelly Cassidy has introduced amendments to HB0831 which hijack the court’s requirement to enact concealed carry and transform concealed carry into gun control.

IT’S IMPORTANT THAT YOU ACT IMMEDIATELY TO HALT CASSIDY’S SCHEME.

Kelly’s vision of concealed carry is absolutely unacceptable to law-abiding citizens. Her proposal contains all sorts of impediments to self defense – the worst of which is that carry licenses would be issues on a “may issue” basis.

UNDER KELLY’S PROPOSAL, YOU WOULD HAVE TO CONVINCE SOME POLITICAL HACK THAT YOUR LIFE IS WORTH DEFENDING.

That’s right, under Kelly Cassidy’s version of “concealed carry,” you would have to go down to your village hall and beg some civil servant for the right to defend yourself and your family from vicious street thugs. Of course, your chances of success will depend greatly on what you look like and how many checks you had written to your local sheriff’s reelection campaign committee.

Cassidy’s bill is being hailed as some sort of “great compromise” by anti-gun pols and the mainstream media, when in fact it’s really a “may issue” squared bill as an applicant would need permission – with cause – from both local officials and the Illinois State Police.

“May issue” bills have a history of being widely subject to abuse, corruption, racial bigotry, and un-equal application based upon the whims of government officials.

In other words, Cassidy’s proposal would offer two levels of political officials the opportunity to deny you based upon corruption, bigotry, or other whims.

In other news, Cook County’s Sheriff Tom Dart has actually come out with something a little less objectionable: a plan to take guns away from felons and the mentally ill.  In short, it would allow police to go confiscate a revoked FOID card within 48 hours of its being revoked by the State Police.

While it sounds good at first blush, we recognize the Illinois State Police revoke FOID cards based upon mere arrests, not convictions.

If protections can be assured for those merely charged, but not convicted, we might join the NRA’s Todd Vandermyde in supporting such a measure.

(Sun-Times) – …”I’ve had a couple of conversations with the sponsor, and we’re trying to work through the issues. I think we agree that picking up revoked FOID cards is something that needs to be addressed. We’re just trying to figure out the mechanisms and protections,” said Todd Vandermyde, a lobbyist for the National Rifle Association.

“My intuition at this point, based on a conversation I’ve had with the sponsor, is I think we’ll be able to reach an agreement on stuff. At least I’m hopeful,” Vandermyde said late Tuesday.
