Mayor Bloomberg’s efforts to export New York State-style gun control to Illinois suffered a setback in recent weeks as GunsSaveLife.com and other gun blogs revealed Bloomberg’s connection to the proposal to sentence first-time offenders to a mandatory three years in prison for unlawful gun possession.

The bill was effectively dead last week, but it has been amended to reduce the mandatory prison time for first-offenders to one year.

How big of the bill’s sponsors, right?

The modified bill came out of committee with the support of the Republican leadership, and we’re not exactly sure why.

SB1342 is the bill.

  1. I just got an email that said that the NRA is now supporting this “compromise” nonsense. The ISRA is not.
