Our President Barack Hussein Obama. I mean, can you look more presidential than this?

Our fearless President Obama and his Department of Homeland Security has given us a wonderful new “Options for Consideration Active Shooter Training Video” in recent days.

In it, they advise Americans to cower and hide under their desks…

…and use scissors to defend against the active shooter.

Maybe the active shooter just needs a haircut.

Advice from the DHS: See an Active Shooter? Run and Hide

(New American) – A four-minute instructional video just released by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) entitled “Active Shooter Situation: Options for Consideration” is filled with numerous suggestions for people confronting an “active shooter,” including evacuating the area, hiding from the shooter, warning others about the danger, locking and blocking doors, and silencing cellphones. Only in the gravest extreme, however, is resistance recommended:

If you are caught out in the open and cannot conceal yourself or take cover, you might consider trying to overpower the shooter with whatever means are available.

As the narrator is intoning this, the video shows an office worker reaching into his drawer and pulling out… a pair of scissors.

The video was in production long before the shooting incident in Newtown, Connecticut, and is based on the DHS’s 2008 training manual, Active Shooter — How to Respond, which defines an “active shooter” as “an individual actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and populated area.”

The manual warns that “because active shooter situations are often over within 10 to 15 minutes … individuals must be prepared both mentally and physically to deal with an active shooter situation.”

It provides “good practices for coping” with such an event, including being aware of the surrounding environment, noting the nearest exits, shutting and locking the door to the office, and “as a last resort, attempt[ing] to take the active shooter down. When the shooter is at close range and you cannot flee, your chance of survival is much greater if you try to incapacitate him/her.”

There’s more…

Here’s Guns Save Life’s take on cowering…  We originally published it a while back, but it’s timely and then some today.

Real Americans don’t cower

MSNBC’s Alex Wagner.

Alex Wagner, a journalist and political commentator for MSNBC, recently offered her analysis of a recent school violence rampage in Ohio with, “Cowering under a desk is indeed the only recourse for people facing life threatening situations in a school.”

Now, Miss Wanger favors the abolition of the Second Amendment.

It would seem that gun aficionados are cut from a different cloth than those like Miss Wagner who would ban all guns.

Cower in the face of life-threatening attack?

Only neutered and feminized Americans would do such a, well, cowardly thing.

If there is a credible threat of an active shooter or terrorist attack, children (and adults alike) might well be better advised to seek the nearest exit and escape to safety.  If fleeing is not an option, teach your children how to find an improvised weapon and to mount a counter-attack.  This, particularly for adolescent children and adults, is far more useful and noble than cowering under one’s desk waiting for a murderer to come around and add to the body count.

Teaching our children to cower in the face of an attack is teaching future adults to be sheep in the face of slaughter.

Maybe that’s what Miss Wagner was taught as a child and young adult.

It’s not what real Americans teach their children.

  1. There was an attempted school massacre a while back, I think in Washington State, in a high school cafeteria. Several high school students, who were familiar with the Ruger 10-22 the murderer was using, recognized when he ran out of bullets and was changing magazines. They charged him and disarmed him, stopping the slaughter.

I’m glad they didn’t cower under the table.

  2. Notice no discussion of how to avoid getting shot by cops arriving on scene while all parties are engaging shooter. Thankfully, one is more likely to being abducted by Martians than party to a mass shooting incident.

  3. In response to the recent events, I would like to introduce to you our new certification program for schools and hospitals. We offer a Deadly Crisis Management
(DCM) Facility/Organizational certification in response to the Active Shooter threat.
With our program we offer liability protection by ensuring that all staff/employees have received our DCM training, from your own instructors, and have a plan in case the unthinkable act from an active shooter or another harmful act by a hostile person should arise.

Please visit our website at http://www.crisisms.com for more information. (info@thecalmprogram.com)
