Propaganda about gun owners has reached a fever pitch in America today, leaving American gun owners feeling like the Jews in Germany before the Second World War.

What is propaganda?   From the US Holocaust Memorial Museum:

Scholars, journalists, and politicians have long argued about how to properly define propaganda and distinguish it from other forms of mass communication. Propaganda is biased information designed to shape public opinion and behavior.

Jews in Germany faced an unrelenting assault from government and political figures in the National Socialist Party, known to many as the Nazi Party.  The National Socialists were far left on the political spectrum, much like today’s leadership of the Democrat Party here in America.  For years, they attacked Jews and political opponents relentlessly, using propaganda and government edicts.

In today’s America, instead of targeting Jews,  the leadership of the Democratic Party and their allies seek a “national dialogue” about guns.

The “national dialogue” about guns President Obama and his friends are advocating is little more than a one-sided propaganda attack against law-abiding Americans who embrace the Constitution and the rights it recognizes and protects.

These modern-day socialists attack gun owners as the bogeyman to distract the public from economic hardships, unemployment and reckless government deficit spending.

Stephen King is the latest to lend his two cents worth to the “national dialogue” of propaganda.

(News Busters) – “One only wishes Wayne LaPierre and his NRA board of directors could be drafted to some of these [violent] scenes, where they would be required to put on booties and rubber gloves and help clean up the blood, the brains, and the chunks of intestine still containing the poor wads of half-digested food that were some innocent bystander’s last meal.”

So wrote horror writer Stephen King in a Kindle essay Friday entitled “Guns.”

“[P]lenty of gun advocates cling to their semi-automatics the way Amy Winehouse and Michael Jackson clung to the shit that was killing them,” King wrote in his 25-page essay.

Dianne Feinstein, who many gun owners view as the Wicked Witch of the West, attacks the NRA as “venal”.  We scratched our heads when we read that.  How is defending civil rights, recognized by the Constitution, venal?

ve·nal
adjective
1.  willing to sell one’s influence, especially in return for a bribe; open to bribery; mercenary: a venal judge.

When the NRA points out the hypocrisy that President Obama wants your children to be defenseless in schools while Obama’s children enjoy the protection of armed guards and Secret Service agents, Obama calls that “repugnant and cowardly”.

And perhaps even more Orwellian is when leftists compare patriotic Americans reciting the Pledge of Allegiance with the behavior of Nazis before World War II.

Chicago anti-gun panelist compares crowd reciting Pledge of Allegiance to Nazis’ beer hall conduct

Also inaccurately accuses veteran of seeking to take over the government by force and crowd of hurling racial insults

(Legal Insurrection) – Lee Goodman of Stop Concealed Carry was one of the panelists at the Chicago-area anti-gun forum featured in my prior post, Veteran stands up for 2nd Amendment at Chicago anti-gun forum.

During that event Goodman and Iraq war veteran Kevin Tully had a back-and-forth discussion of the 2nd Amendment.  In a video I took, which now has over 160,000 YouTube views, Tully is seen calling for an end to partisan divide in the country, and giving an impassioned defense not only of the 2nd Amendment, but of 1st Amendment rights.

After the event, Goodman wrote a blog post titled ”Overthrowing the Government“ in which he analogized the audience standing to recite the Pledge of Allegiance to Nazi beer hall conduct (emphasis added):

The Illinois State Rifle Association had asked their people – who love their guns more than they care about other people’s lives – to go to the forum. They showed up and, on a pre-arranged signal, interrupted the moderator’s introductions by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. There’s nothing wrong with pledging allegiance, but this demonstration was designed to take control of the meeting and display their power. You may have seen something like it in movies like Cabaret and The Sound of Music, which chronicle how Nazis would intimidate patrons of beer halls and other public events by singing, saluting, scowling, taking names, and following up with beatings.

Nevermind that Mr. Goodman got the good guys and bad guys reversed in his missive, or perhaps it was intentional.  In reality, it was the town’s residents that sang in protest to a handful of Nazis in the audience in The Sound of Music.

Goodman’s propaganda-laced missive is about as misdirected and misleading as the rest of the propaganda attacks against gun owners we’ve all endured since that fateful day in December when an insane, evil madman attacked a school in Connecticut and massacred so many innocent lives.

The mainstream media has been quite complicit in this attacks on Americans’ civil rights, offering plenty of publicity to anti-self-defense politicians to air their attacks.

One source in New York even went so far as to publish an online, searchable directory of gun owner names in an effort to shame and intimidate gun owners.

It was merely the latest case of gun owner information being published online.  A similar effort to make public Illinois Firearms Owners Identification card owners, endorsed and supported by Illinois leftist Democrat Attorney General Lisa Madigan, also met with a firestorm of anger.  In Illinois’ case, legislation was drafted and passed by an overwhelming margin because of gun owner push-back.

The New York database was taken down after an onslaught of angry gun owners pushing back at the outrageous violation of their privacy and legislation is also in the works to prevent any future release of gun owner information.

Yes, gun owners in America are sick of being castigated by today’s leftists in government and their socialist friends and these are just a couple examples of how gun owners are waking up and pushing back.

There have been a few voices in the wilderness warning more mainstream, moderate politicians that attacking guns is dangerous to their political careers.

But it is Obama and his allies that have done more to awaken average Americans to recognizing our rights enshrined in our Second Amendment are under vicious attack.

The unrelenting attacks and rants from leftists and socialists are mobilizing gun owners to wake up and take action.

Americans are arming themselves at an unprecedented rate.  Obama has turned the base metals of guns and ammunition into gold faster and more efficiently than the mythical Midas.  These new gun owners are bringing guns home to hundreds of thousands of homes that didn’t have guns before!

They are also joining the NRA in droves – thousands and thousands each day!

Yes, Mr. and Mrs. America, they are coming for your guns.  There’s no doubt about it.  Here it is from the Wicked Witch of the West’s mouth.

Now is the time to get active or risk losing your guns and that right for generations to come.

Defending civil rights isn’t a spectator sport.  You need to get active and stay active.

Join the NRA.  Now’s not the time to work on your top-ten lists why you’re too good to join the NRA.  Mere mention of the NRA causes those opposed to our civil rights to piddle themselves.

Join a local or regional gun rights organization and volunteer to help them in their mission to defend your rights at the state and local level.  This isn’t just a national-level issue, as the residents of New York State learned not long ago.

Join a local shooting range and get formal training.  Practice your skills.

More importantly, take a friend or three who have never shot before and expose them to the fun and excitement of gun ownership.  Let them know about the truth about guns and the proven benefits of firearm ownership.

It’s time for gun owners to push back twice as hard when socialists and leftists denigrate law-abiding Americans as responsible for the criminal misuse of firearms.

Remember:  Gun control is less about guns and more about control.

And it is racist, classist and sexist, too.

  1. I am a dual citizen, US and Israeli, and I spent many years in both countries. I served as a combat soldier in the Israeli army. I am also a gun owner (hence reading your blog).

You should know that the reference to Israel when discussing gun rights in the US is not very good. Gun control in Israel is many orders of magnitude more restrictive than in the US. In Israel, you may only get a gun permit if you have reached the rank of officer in the military, if you live in or travel for work over the green line, or a few other limited circumstances.

When you have a gun permit, it is limited to a single firearm. If you want a new gun, you have to sell your old one, get a new gun permit, and then buy your new gun.

It is true that Israel is a much more armed society due to the prevalence of armed guards and off-duty soldiers carrying their military-issue firearms, but the vast majority of folks in the US who treasure their 2nd amendment rights would not be able to legally own a firearm if they were Israeli.

  2. Firearms may be ubiquitous in Israel, but Yaakov is correct in his assertion their laws are extremely restrictive. We don’t want to emulate the Israelis in this arena.

  3. I think you both missed the premise of this article, though. It’s not intended to compare firearms regulations in the US and Israel, but to point out that today’s gun owners in America are marginalized, Otherized and ostracized the same way the Jews were in Nazi Germany. It’s a good and timely piece.

  4. also important: make sure you have your NRA sticker and/or GSL sticker on your vehicle. You should see some of the priceless looks I get in parking lots in Urbana with those. 🙂

The gun-grabbers and statists have a harder time marginalizing us when people see that NRA members and GSL members are ‘regular folks’ like them, not cast extras for ‘Deliverance’, which is how the Left portrays the NRA.

  5. I don’t want any pro-gun stickers on my vehicles.
I think they would make me a target to thieves and LEO.

  6. True, the gun-grabbers and American fascist social-engineers are actively stereotyping, labeling, and attempting to shame gun-owners. Fortunately, in America, there is a large percentage of the population that are gun-owners and other non-gun owners who have and appreciate having access to guns.
