Sadly, they put the gator down.

Heck, I’d say Mr. Riggins was just a good start.  There are at least three suspects in Kansas soon to be on trial for murdering a store owner who would have made good candidates for swim dates for that gator.

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. (WFTV) — A suspected burglar met his demise when he was attacked by an alligator while running from deputies, according to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

Matthew Riggins’ body was found in Barefoot Bay Lake on Nov. 23.

Deputies said he drowned as a result of an alligator attack.

…During the recovery of his body, which was spotted just north of Ocean Avenue Way, dive teams encountered an 11-foot alligator around the body.Florida Fish and Wildlife caught the animal and had it euthanized.

Reports said that the, “forensic examination of the alligator located remains consistent with the injuries to Riggins inside the alligator’s stomach.”

“So at that point we had a belief that he was probably attacked by the alligator when he was trying to get away from police,” said Goodyear.

Deputies said they’ve located Riggins’ alleged accomplice, who is refusing to cooperate with the investigation.

  1. Time for “assault gator” laws. Limits on gator length and number of teeth.

No one needs an 11 foot gator.
