Yes, in Illinois!

We don’t have a right-to-carry law currently, and that won’t change until springtime, but administrators in Washington, IL aren’t waiting.

They’re working together with local police to get trained and sworn as part-time police officers so they may carry firearms on school property as another layer of defense for the students in their schools.

The school board and parents generally support the proposal.

Congrats to these folks.  Gun-free school zones are indeed becoming a thing of the past.

Washington Police Chief Jim Kuchenbecker and Superintendent Jim Dunnan devised the plan in the wake of the tragedy last month at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.

Three administrators would become special part-time Washington police officers with authority to possess a firearm only inside the high school.

The administrators would undergo the same firearms training as all police officers, including a 40-hour course and monthly qualification.

“We feel this is a sound, logical plan because Illinois doesn’t allow concealed carry of a weapon,” Kuchenbecker said.

  1. With 300 million firearms in private hands (one-third of them pistols), the overwhelming majority of gun owners ARE responsible, law-abiding citizens, which is why horrific massacres are not commonplace, but rather terrible outliers that can never be legislated away (e.g. DC, Chicago, and “Gun Free Zones”).

For several examples for the recent use of firearms for defensive purposes not typically reported by the national media please visit: http://www.equalforce.net and forward this site to others to whom this information may be useful. @EqLF1

  2. As a register firearms instructor for the State of Illinois. A father of a school teacher, I think it is a FANTASTIC idea!!!

  3. Great news. I think IL as a whole will be a more polite and safer society after CC comes to IL this spring.
