The National Shooting Sports Foundation sent out an email late today December 23, 2020 announcing the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) has rescinded its Notice of “Objective Factors for Classifying Weapons with Stabilizing Braces” that was published just last week in the federal register!
Yes just a week ago, ATF published a whole list of nonsense about how they should “Objectively” measure factors involved with Stabilizing or Wrist Braces which threatened to make over a million of those items illegal and any gun they are attached to would be classified in the same manner as a machine gun or suppressor under the National Firearms Act.
ATF made the required legal publication in the Federal Register and had to invite public comment for two weeks. There was a huge amount of outrage made public in the firearms media and with Pro Second Amendment groups. Apparently people did write in to make their objections known…and now the agency has rescinded the whole thing after only one week!
Well done all. Was it public outcry that caused it? Or political pressure? I don’t know. I can’t claim all the credit for them dropping it after I wrote my one email comment …oh maybe I can…who knows at this point.
Perhaps they saw the logic of my written argument, or maybe your obvious common sense in print- I mean they already said these braces are legal…nah, it’s the government, I think they got scalded in public trying to pull a fast one. They jumped the gun moving out on this issue before they had the new President elect and his gang for cover.
The good thing is, ATF has dropped the matter for now.

Seems as if the ATF has failed to remove the letter asking for comments. It is possible once they submitted the rule change it has to go through the process. It is still live?
