Well the FBI released the 2020 Crime Report – it is the compilation of 2019 into 2020 numbers, so it is not really the current numbers, just what they gathered from last year. We all watched crime develop last year on TV. People were out of control, police were painted as criminals, riots were rampant and mayors kept their policy and financial thumbs on the police to not take action.  If you look at the report that violent crime went up in 2020, and listen to any news from major cities, you can pretty easily extrapolate violent crime is even higher this year. They said property crimes continue to go down. Good news that.

They consider the following crime as “Violent” when counting the FBI statistics: homicide, rape, robbery and aggravated assault.

Now you can do a lot with statistics, and often make them spin any way you want, but consider the following listed in a Grayslake Patch story: This is the first time the FBI has reported increased violence in four years. Hmm, that four year number isn’t so odd is it? What else happens every four years in America? Holy cow! Consequences? We don’t have consequences any more!  If you are the mayor of one of the top 25 crime ridden cites in America, all (D) and one Independent, you can point to lowered property crimes…but what about the violence which continues to increase?

The FBI said violent crime increased 5.2 percent in 2020 over the 2019 numbers and the biggest numbers to heed, murder and non-negligent manslaughter charges saw the sharpest one year increase up 29.4 percent nationwide.  Let’s look at that again, homicides were up 29 percent nationwide last year! That is huge. But won’t get any play beyond the FBI report. Nothing to see here folks. Move along. Let’s talk about COVID or big business taxes, not violent crime, Afghanistan, China, North Korea, France, anything related to immigration, energy or any of a number of other fabulous failures in progress.

My favorite Chicago shot tracker, www.heyjackass.com shows 9 months into this year 3,569 human beings have been shot so far and 615 shot and killed and 37 others killed by non firearms.  Last year Chicago only shot 2656 citizens and killed 606. Yes almost 913 MORE people have already been shot this year over last year. Looks like this is going to be another huge murder year for Chi-raq. It might even have to be commented upon by the Mayor as an “uptick.” Seen any of this on national news?  By year’s end there will be well over 4,000 people shot in Chicago, and Chicago did not even crack the top ten most violent cites by per capita in the FBI 2020 Report!  Memphis, Detroit, Milwaukee, Kansas City, Cleveland, St Louis, Little Rock, Springfield (MO), South Bend and Lansing for those who keep score. Congrats to Rockford and Chicago for dropping out of the top 10 this year!

Breitbart.com pulled some additional numbers from the FBI Uniform Crime Report which will be quickly forgotten in the current D.C. mood to ban guns and ammunition by any means possible. You know those pesky “assault rifles” which are inherently evil and lay waste to entire cities? Well 452 people were killed by rifles of all types in the 2020 report not just semi automatic detachable magazine rifles,  and 1,732 people were stabbed or hacked to death by “knives or cutting instruments.” Yes, over 3.5x times as many were killed by knives as were by rifles. Breitbart also said the 2019 report showed it was 4 times as many by knives (375/1525) and in 2018 over five times as many were stabbed to death as were killed by rifles.

Statistics being what they are, 456 is a small number compared to the estimated medical negligence/malpractice deaths which are estimated to be between 250,000-400,000 each year. Obviously any rifle murders are terrible crimes with each having far reaching consequences, but looking at last year’s number versus the amount of furor and money spent on gun control to get sporting rifles out of the hands of law abiding citizens, it is obviously a control issue versus a crime reduction issue.  Party platforms are not built on reigning in medical mistakes or bathtub drowning deaths.

…oh and Pumpkin Spice is back too. Ugh. It may cause additional violent homicides when people find it advertised in every single product they consume in the next two months. I keep looking for those Pumpkin Spice bullets on sale, but supplies are limited.

  1. Get good training, get your permit, and carry every moment you can. Your chances of being the victim of a violent crime are much higher than you think. It’s not the same as a lightning strike.
