Amazing but true headline. Senior United Nations personnel have been consulted with in New York City and have been invited to come to Chicago to talk about the rampant gun violence.

Who could come up with such a bizarre idea? Oh, it was Cook County Commissioner Richard Boykin. He travelled this week to the U.N. and met with the Assistant Secretary General for Peacekeeping Support and invited the U.N. to come to Rahm’s Nightly Shootout by the Lake to meet with victims and maybe “help out” with “peacekeeping efforts.”

“Peacekeeping efforts?” My mind boggled. It was too crazy to be true. I thought the press had it all out of context. Boykin might just be consulting with some of the U.N. programs (they have a huge number of programs worldwide that deal with government and social problems like refugees, World Food Program, Drug Control Program and a new Youth and Violence Study. Nope. It was as silly as the headlines announced. He really was asking the U.N. to come to Chicago and help following local failures to curb the violence.

Mayor Emmanuel must be doing summersaults in his office and straining to do a psychic Darth Vader/Sith Lord throat choke on Boykin. Imagine Boykin, going so far outside the realm to not only criticize the Chicago efforts, he is skipping the traditional and legislated civil peacekeepers the Mayor, the Police, the Governor, Congress, President Trump’s offer of help and even the Constitution of the United States to go international with his personal request for assistance.

Apparently, Boykin is not getting along with the Mayor, and following these headlines he probably won’t be looking for a Christmas card in the mail this year or an invite to the City Hall Christmas party.

Looking closer, I find no quarrel with Boykin’s stated motivation to get absolutely anyone to help and to acknowledge in his words a “Quiet Genocide” is going on along the south side of Chicago. Support/assistance or revamp of efforts is desperately needed. With two weeks to go in December of 2017 the Homicides are piling up at 652 human beings killed and 3,459 shot and wounded.

Some have called the entire U.N. meeting and invitation just a huge political and media grandstand opportunity by Boykin. Which of course it is. He did not do this in secret. He grabbed up big Chicago headlines immediately just from the sheer audacity.

Some have shaken their heads believing it to be just crazy politics, and others have been outraged by the mere notion of suggested U.N. involvement with local city government on American soil.

The conspiracy buffs of course have launched off into the internet with their “Ah-ha!” moment that the New World Order is alive and well and coming to Chicago any moment now. Calm down boys there won’t be foreign troops on American soil and the U.N. has not been waiting to start world conquest beginning in Cook County.

While it might be fanciful to picture blue helmets from Pakistan or Croatia manning check points in Inglewood or Austin to keep the Folks and People based gangs from shooting it out nightly, even the U.N. wouldn’t be able to figure out how to negotiate the Illinois Tollway booths with armored columns. Remember Slim Pickens in Blazing Saddles? “Somebody has got to go back and pick up a load of dimes!”
