Man With Knife Shot, Killed While Fleeing Officer
How about “Armed lunatic with knife shot chasing an EMT he threatened to kill”? It might be a far more accurate title. After all, Randall did threaten an EMT that exited the store moments before Randall tried to chase after him and gets twice perforated by a hero cop who frankly displayed excessive restraint in not dropping him sooner.
Weatherford , TX (LiveLeak) – The family of Randall Waddel, who was holding a knife when he was shot and killed by a Weatherford police officer in June, this week released video of the shooting, saying it shows that Waddel was attempting to flee the officer and was not threatening the officer or bystanders when he was shot.
That’s certainly a creative interpretation of a guy who pissed on some merchandise, then ignored lawful orders from the police to drop the knife and get on the ground. Ignore lawful commands from a cop, and charge towards them with a knife and you can expect to get perforated as well.
Waddel – who had been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder and was legally intoxicated at the time – was chased at gunpoint through the store and did not respond to commands from the officer to drop the knife before he was shot, according to video and witness accounts.
So he was drunk in addition to a lunatic? Fantastic. Does that make you one bit less dead when he plunges a knife into you.
“My brother walked all the way around and tried to avoid him [the officer] at all costs,” Waddel’s sister, Joyce Conner, said. “Never one time did he hold up the knife. Not one time.”
Never did he drop it, either.
Conner said she doesn’t believe the 49-year-old Waddel behaved in a way that should have resulted in the officer shooting him.
“He had no lawful reason to shoot my brother,” Conner said. “He [Waddel] was mentally ill and scared.”
Nice try, Joyce. Just because your brother was crazy and drunk doesn’t mean he gets a pass at menacing others.
We’re figuring she’s going to try to leverage his death into a ghetto lottery win in a lawsuit settlement.
Frankly, the world is obviously a better place without this crazed lunatic.
