DC bill would pay people stipends not to commit crimes

WASHINGTON (AP) — They say crime doesn’t pay, but that might not be entirely true in the District of Columbia as lawmakers look for ways to discourage people from becoming repeat offenders.

The D.C. Council voted unanimously Tuesday to approve a bill that includes a proposal to pay residents a stipend not to commit crimes.

Here’s an alternative idea:  Put people in prison for long terms if they commit violent crimes.

Paying bad guys to behave is akin to paying the mob “fire insurance”.

  1. Aren’t they already paying these people welfare? How’s that working out at preventing crime?

What happens if someone takes the money and commits crimes anyway? Are they going to take the money back?

This plan is stupid on so many levels…

  2. What do you expect from a city that re-elected a mayor at the first opportunity after he was released from prison. He served time for smoking crack in a hotel room with hookers.
Quite the role-model for the upstanding citizens of our nations capital.

  3. $70,000 a year in welfare benefits isn’t enough? We need to pay them $9,000 more in cash.

How about throw their asses in a wood chipper when they act like savages and use the output to feed the animals at the zoo.

Kills two birds with one chipper.

    Sam

    1. I think it would be animal cruelty to feed the tripe that comes out of the wood chipper to the zoo’s inmates. Food poisoning at the highest level.

  4. Sam’s Fishin’ Chum: Gooey Goodness!

Stupid idea from a bunch of Democrats. Do you really expect more?

  5. Save money DC, ” dumb crooks “. Have everyone have their wrists duct taped to their ankles so it will make it easier to take your money.

  6. So if I move to D.C. do i actually have to commit crimes to get this stipend or can I just be a worthless drain on society living on handouts to get the extra pay?

  7. So long before the politicians in Chicago hear about this and try make this into some kind of there.
    Any bets??

  8. Wasn’t there a scene in Blazing Saddles (or was it Airplane?) where the robbers and their victims just queued up at the ATM and the victims just one-by-one handed their money off to the robbers one by one?

Is that art becoming reality here?
