Here’s one mom who took action instead of stamping her feet “demanding” action:  She left her Glock 17 where her 13-year-old son could access it in an emergency.  glock-17

When two suspicious characters stopped out front and then walked around back, the 13-year-old young man took notice.  When they approached the house and began a-menacing, the young man went to his mom’s bedroom and got her gun.

When the bad guys, both career scumbags, kicked the door and saw junior with his Gat, they likely suffered a sudden and profound lack of bowel and bladder control, and began shooting at him.  Fortunately for the young man, his attackers had at least two things going against them:  a lack of familiarity of the home they were invading and a lack of practice.   If you count a pair of shorts full of turds, the bad guys might have had three things going against a successful outcome.

The young man’s shots were true and Scumbag #1, Lamar Anthwan Brown died as his compatriot, Scumbag #2 Ira Bennett drove him to the hospital.   Ira rather unceremoniously dumped his pal onto the ground at the ER entrance and drove his guilty self away, only to turn himself in to authorities later.

If you guessed these scumbags were no strangers to crime, you win a jelly bean.

(Guns.com) – But apparently the two men were no strangers to crime, with both having an extensive criminal history. Brown was convicted six times on felony drug charges, in addition to unlawful carrying of a weapon, disorderly conduct and trespassing. Bennett was previously convicted of assault with intent to kill, pointing a firearm at a person and third-degree burglary, in addition to drug convictions that included possession of a controlled substance, manufacturing and distributing a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.

(Post & Courier) – A 13-year-old Ladson boy fended off two would-be burglars by using his mother’s gun to protect himself while home alone Tuesday.

He killed one of them in an exchange of gunfire, and the second suspect was later arrested, according to the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office.

Lamar Anthwan Brown, 31, of Summerville, died at Trident Medical Center of gunshot wounds, according to Charleston County Chief Deputy Coroner Bobbi Jo O’Neal. He was dropped off at the hospital by the second suspect, Ira Bennett, after fleeing the Elderwood Drive home where the shooting took place, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The best part:  The 13-year-old boy had no experience shooting or training in using that pistol, yet he did just fine.  Not what I’d recommend, but it worked okay.  One thing’s for sure, there is a reason why GSL Defense Training ditched the “Olympic” style of shooting pistols and instead teaches a more defensive isosceles stance when we introduce kids age 9-16 to handguns at the NRA Youth Shooting Camp in Bloomington, IL.

The boy’s mother said that she had the gun at the house for protection, but she had never trained her son to use it.

“I tell my kids that if anything ever happens to call 911, but I also tell them to protect themselves if they have to,” she said. “I never would have dreamed that this would have been a part of our day today.”

…She added that the incident makes her want to move from the home where they’ve lived since May, but she didn’t want to make any rash decisions for her family.

Yes, ma’am.  You need to move.

  1. Glad it all worked out. As you can see in the pics, kids and guns do go together. Proper training and respect for firearms is far better for kids than rap videos and hollywood movies. As a participant in the NRA youth camp, I would strongly urge parents to bring their kids next summer. They will have a great time, lean much, and make friends.

  2. What’s sad to me is see will likely be charged with something for allowing her minor son to be left with the ability to defend himself.

    1. Not likely to happen. Justifiable. Fear of charges leads to inaction and dead child. Get child trained, get child a FOID, responsible loving parents know their children’s limitations. Teach ’em not to fear the gun, it is a useful tool.

  3. Let us hope no “charges” are brought against the mother and she realizes her son is old enough and mature enough to train him in the judicious use of firearms. Too bad both scumbags were not perforated enough to lead to their demise. Sounds like the one that lived needs to be eliminated from society permanantly, as he has no redeeming factors as per his criminal record.

  4. Our children have EXTENSIVE training and are not afraid to use it. Accessible and ready to fire upon uninvited thugs.
