Sheriff Jeff Wiley.

You don’t have to be an unarmed victim.
Empower yourself.  Buy a gun.  Get training.

We’ve been preaching this for ages.

It’s common sense.

Among the mainstream media, it’s news when a public official voices this simple truth.

Sheriff on domestic violence: ‘Shoot ’em in the backyard before he gets in your house’

GEISMAR, LA (WAFB)Ascension Parish Sheriff Jeff Wiley said the domestic murder case in Geismar this week case shows the limits of a system meant to protect victims.

While Sheriff Wiley said it is important to fully utilize the legal system, he said it can’t protect victims 24/7. He suggested an additional option.

“Get your concealed weapons permit. Ladies, learn how to safely handle a weapon, learn how to safely store a weapon, and when you’re in a situation like this shoot him in your back yard before he gets in your house. Drop him,” said Wiley.

The Sheriff admitted the advice may sound radical, but he said extreme violence requires extraordinary efforts for protection.

“Take the extremes necessary to live a life where you don’t have to worry about your kids and your life,” said Wiley.

Now, I don’t recommend shooting violent criminal predators in the backyard if you’re safely ensconced inside your home, at least not without exigent circumstances.  But once he (or she) gets in the house?  You bet.

Not surprisingly, the sheriff’s advice isn’t sitting well with folks opposed to personal responsibility.

They are feigning righteous indignation that someone suggest that people help themselves when it comes to thwarting violent attack:

In 1000-point text (that’s REALLY BIG TEXT for those living in Rio Linda), the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence Ownership screams:   Tell the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement to Repudiate Sheriff Wiley’s Comments on Domestic Violence and Guns.

Like that’s going to happen.

CSGV prattles on (no, we’re not driving traffic there with a link.  If you want to read the whole thing, google the first line):

Sheriff Wiley’s remarks put the blame on abused mother Monica Butler Johnson for her own murder at the hands of her ex-husband.2 Sheriff Wiley also seems to be indicating that he believes our criminal justice system is useless, or ineffectual. If that is the case in Ascension Parish, then the responsibility is his.

Last time I checked, a piece of paper doesn’t stop an angry domestic abuser with evil in their heart.

Sometimes I think the CSGV would have called for Columbus’ head on a platter for his belief the world wasn’t flat.

  1. CSGV is a joke.

You are doing the right by not giving them any oxygen.

They have one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel.
