Volunteers across the nation are taking “Support our Troops” to a whole new level, standing guard outside recruiting offices nationwide to deter any copycats of the Islamic terror attack in Chattanooga last week.

Why are they these gun owning Americans there?

Because Barack Obama’s administration steadfastly refuses to let our armed forces members protect themselves inside America by carrying self-defense firearms.

What’s more, an increasing number of mainstream media publications are picking up on this trend, both in local stories and nationally.

One of our Guns Save Life members from Texas called this morning about this group guarding a facility near his home.

The are called “Operation Hero Guard” and they enjoy tremendous support from locals, who stop by and bring them food, water and well wishes.  Additional volunteers are showing up as well, swelling the numbers of armed volunteers from one or two last weekend to five or six today.  They’ve even got the support of a local militia (gasp!) group.

They’ve got enough people now that they are pulling shifts, so nobody has to be there all day, everyday.  Several people are always there, however, keeping a watchful eye out for trouble.

Again, these people are enjoying great support from the local community and the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram is now covering the story with a big, front-page story in today’s paper.

Armed with rifles, men stand guard at military recruiting offices in Cleburne

Armed with AR-15 and AK-47 semi-automatic weapons, members of an impromptu “Operation Hero Guard” stationed themselves outside a military recruiting center in downtown Cleburne to protect those who work inside.

The men said their volunteer effort is tied to the recent killing of five servicemen in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Two of the five men in Cleburne began standing guard Monday at the U.S. Armed Forces Recruiting Station on Nolan River Road and said they will stay as long as necessary.

Terry Jackson, an Army veteran with 15 years of service, said he was stunned to hear of Thursday’s shooting rampage at a military recruiting center in Chattanooga and a nearby Navy Reserve center.

“That’s unacceptable,” Jackson said, recalling his first thought. “It was unacceptable for our soldiers, sailors, our men and women of the military to go over and serve and go into combat, and then to come back here to the homeland and be gunned down on their home duty stations. They were going to work for their families and not coming home.”

The New York Daily News reported on the nationwide trend:

Gun-toting volunteers show up at U.S. military recruiting centers, act as deterrent after Chattanooga mass shooting

COLUMBUS, Ohio (NY Daily News) — Gun-toting citizens are showing up at military recruiting centers around the country, saying they plan to protect recruiters following last week’s killing of four Marines and a sailor in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

The citizens, some of them private militia members, said they were supporting the recruiters, who by military directive are not armed.

“We’re here to serve and protect,” Clint Janney said Tuesday, wearing a Taurus 9mm handgun as he stood in a parking lot across from a recruiting center on the west side of Columbus. “What the government won’t do, we will do.”

Similar posts have been set up outside recruitment centers in several cities around the country, including Madison, Wisc.; Hiram, Ga.; Phoenix; and several sites in Tennessee, including Murfreesboro.

There is at least one specific threat here in the Midwest from a “radicalized” Indiana teen who left home pledging to commit a copycat attack, but by and large the volunteers are serving as a deterrent.

My analysis/prediction:  The Department of Defense will soon improve security with more than directives to “close the blinds” at their offices.  Having everyday Americans show up to do the right thing that the Obama administration won’t do is terribly embarrassing for Democrats in general and Obama in particular.  It illustrates how soft Democrats are on Islamic terror and how nonsensical their prohibition on military members carrying sidearms for self-defense really is.  The last thing Democrats want to do is give angry Americans another reason to vote against them next year, and this issue is one that is galvanizing ordinarily uninvolved Americans into anger and action.

This won’t stand.

Something’s going to happen, either a policy change to allow these soldiers to be armed or committing to other meaningful improvements in security that will end these armed civilians standing guard at recruiting centers.

  1. Bravo.

Maybe I should stop by area’s office and see if they would like some company now and then.

  2. Everyday Americans step up when government fails. Isn’t that the norm?

Isn’t also the anathema of Democrats too?
