Come join grassroots gun rights activism at its best!  Come join us Tuesday evening in Champaign as Alan Gottlieb, the head of the Second Amendment Foundation will be at GSL’s Champaign meeting!

Guns Save Life is a regional gun rights group based in Illinois known for our Burma-style highway sign program, our GunNews Magazine monthly journal and our aggressive gun rights activism.  We host well-attended, upbeat monthly grassroots gun rights meetings in five cities across Illinois (alphabetically, in Champaign, Charleston, Chicago, Peoria and Pontiac), and we’re coming to Springfield soon as well.

We are pleased to announce a very special guest speaker coming to our Champaign, Illinois monthly gun rights meeting on July 14th: Alan Gottlieb.

Fresh off a court victory giving residents of Puerto Rico Constitutional Carry, the Second Amendment Foundation’s head Alan Gottlieb will be addressing the audience at the Guns Save Life Champaign meeting.

The SAF is the group that was responsible for the landmark civil rights case District of Columbia v. Heller (2008).  They followed the Heller victory by filing the McDonald v. Chicago (2010) which incorporated the Heller decision onto the fifty states.

Here in Illinois, the SAF and the NRA both filed separate suits, challenging Illinois intractable ban on concealed carry.  The cases were effectively merged on appeal into the SAF’s Moore v. Madigan.  The Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Illinois’ prohibition on carry was indeed unconstitutional and ordered the General Assembly to remedy the deficiency.

In a nutshell, we now have concealed carry in Illinois thanks to the legal work of the SAF.

Without them, we would still have no concealed carry in Illinois.  What’s more, it was Alan Gottlieb who formulated this incredibly successful strategy of turning to the courts to get the rights our legislatures denied us for so long.  His work continues today with the SAF funding dozens of additional cases, such as the case in Puerto Rico that just netted yet another incredible victory.

“It’s going to be a good night with one of greats in gun rights activism,” said GSL’s Executive Director John Boch.

Gottlieb will be appearing at the Tuesday, July 14th GSL meeting in Champaign, IL.  He’ll be there early to answer questions and engage one-on-one with those in attendance.

There’s no admission charge, but there will be good food for $12/plate (with a discount for kids under 13).  Everyone is welcome and you don’t have to be a member to attend.  There will be door prizes and we’re giving away a pistol for our monthly drawing gun.  Tickets for that are $5 each.  Yes, you might have a gun follow you home and the money goes for a good cause – Guns Save Life!
