The LA Times has taken the position that our right to keep and bear arms was created by the Supreme Court and not the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution. They argue that the 2nd Amendment only applies to state militias, not individuals. The NY Times has taken a similar position.
“OK Fred, who cares?” you say. “The point is we have the right to bear arms and that is what is important.”
Well, here is the problem. If in fact our right to bear arms comes from the Supreme Court, then it can also be taken away by the Supreme Court! Whereas, if in fact it is given to us as a Divine right and simply guaranteed by the 2nd Amendment, then no Court can take it away.
We also need to keep this in mind: According to the Constitution, whenever 2/3rds of the States call for a Constitutional Convention, Congress is supposed to do just that. Back in 2014 Michigan became the 34th state to make such a call. However, legal questions have arisen concerning the fact that since States began calling for a convention several of them have since rescinded their call and some of them have also reinstated theirs. The point is, we are potentially dangerously close to having to call a new Constitutional Convention. Why do I say, ‘dangerously close?’ Simple, the integrity, moral values and Christianity of today’s America is a far cry from that which existed in the 1780’s. Let’s face it, how comfortable would you be knowing that the future of the United States could well rest in the hands of the likes of politicians like Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Mitch McConnell, John McCain, Lindsay Graham, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, etc? While there are indeed men and women of principle out there, as a nation we are a far cry from the likes of George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams and James Madison who drafted our first Constitution.
Under no circumstances should we even consider having another Constitutional Convention until such time as a nation shaking spiritual revival has swept through out land. However, should that happen, there actually would not really be a need for a new convention, for the original Constitution would work just fine for a repentant Godly nation – just like it did for the first 200 years.
