Jorge Amselle

Jorge Amselle, in his role as a nationally-known gun writer, influences people nationwide on a daily basis.  He writes for a number of publications and organizations, including the National Rifle Association.  What's troubling to many is his increasingly full-throated support of Hillary Clinton and her campaign for president.  Yes, he's promoting Hillary Clinton over our gun rights.   Make no mistake about it:  this election is about whether or not our gun rights will be severely curtailed or safeguarded.  Gun scribe Jorge Amselle promoting Hillary is one and the same with promoting gun control.

Amselle's tone deafness on our gun rights, while working for the gun industry and the NRA remains striking.  How bad is it?

David Fortier is a long-time writer for Shotgun News and other publications.  He ran into Jorge Amselle late last week and wrote this over at Arfcom:

Jorge Amselle is a writer for the firearms industry, such as Tactical-Life. During conversations at an industry event in Florida both Thursday night and Friday morning he stated to me, with a number of other industry professionals present and listening, that he

Supported Hillary Clinton for President and was going to vote for her.

He felt other issues such as immigration (he's Hispanic) were more important than the Second Amendment
Stated Obama hadn't been bad for the 2A and Hillary would be basically a third term.
He stated he would rather see Hillary Clinton appoint justices to the Supreme Court and not Trump.
He stated he was not a single-issue voter and the 2A was not at the top of his list.

Jorge can vote for anyone he wants. It's his right.

However, his readers have a right to know Jorge Amselle both supports Hillary Clinton for President, plans to vote for her. Hillary is well known for her outspoken plans to destroy the Second Amendment.

And he places other issues, such as immigration above the Second Amendment.

I have been a member of the firearms industry since 1998. I can't believe a member of the firearms press would openly support Hillary Clinton for President. In my opinion supporting Hillary Clinton for President in this election and supporting her picks for the Supreme Court are much worse than what Jim Zumbo, Jerry Tsai or Dick Metcalf did……

He is another Team Wendy…….

I went back and forth with him, with other writers such as Tim Yan, Todd Jaderborg, Richard Venola, Neal Shera and even my employer present, and made my thoughts known to him in a crystal clear manner.

What are your thoughts?

Indeed, Jorge Amselle's posts on Facebook read a lot like Mr. Fortier's recollection of Jorge's boldly proclaimed support of Hillary.

Amselle wrote this on Facebook on May 4, 2016:

I have always been a Republican leaning Libertarian but now I find that the GOP has abandoned most of their Libertarian principles and I now have more in common with Democrats. I am not a single issue voter but if I had to pick one it would be xenophobia and the GOP is on the wrong side of that one. I guess I am a Democrat now. Also being Hispanic I fee3 especially unwelcome in the GOP.

Even his mother chastised him for that post, in comments.

Hazel Huete-Rosenbusch:  WHAAT? I never thought I'd see the day! sad, sad, sad that a son of mine would vote for Hillary. You still have time till November, son, to wake up and stop drinking the "cool aid".

To no avail:

Jorge Amselle:  Look guys I get it. I have known a lot of other former Republicans who became Democrats (and I am not saying that I will become a Dem or necessarily vote for Hillary, yech) because they got fed up with one thing or another. I thought they were crazy or sellouts (still do for some of 'em). I have put up with a lot of BS and held my nose a lot in supporting the GOP almost (but not entirely) on the basis of gun rights (as I am sure many of you have as well). But supporting Trump is just a bridge too far for me. I hope you all can understand (if not agree) with that.

He's also posted a series of other  pro-Hillary, anti-Trump entries (samples 1 2 3 4 ) on his Facebook timeline since the above post.

At The War On Guns Blog, David Codrea wrote about Amselle's support of Hillary in this election cycle in a story entitled "The Enemy Within".

Mr. Amselle later confirmed David Codrea's story.

Jorge Amselle:   For the record the article is almost entirely accurate.

Here's Mr Amselle's bio at Amazon.com, where his book Gun Digest's Shooter's Guide to Concealed Carry has a listing:

Jorge Amselle is an NRA certified firearms instructor, a military veteran, bullseye shooter, and full time professional firearms writer for various national gun magazines, including Combat Handguns, Guns and Weapons for Law Enforcement, Special Weapons for Military and Police, Rifle Firepower, American Rifleman, and Shooting Illustrated.

He's been around a while too and he knows the ropes.  In 2013, he wrote this over at The Daily Caller about Dick Metcalf:

Intolerance of guns will not be tolerated: The ballad of Dick Metcalf

Every now and again someone who is involved in the gun industry, either as a writer or manufacturer, says something that sets the gun owning community on fire.

How prophetic.

The most recent example of this is long time gun writer and TV show host Dick Metcalf. He had the temerity to question if maybe some regulation of firearms could possibly be reasonable. To make matter worse he did this in an extensive editorial in one of the oldest and most widely circulated gun magazines, Guns and Ammo.

… we are dealing with matters of opinion and Metcalf is entitled to his. For the record I completely disagree and don’t think there should be any restrictions on the private ownership of any type of weapon from rocks to nukes. I got to make a living at this you know.

Again, how prophetic.

The sad part and the main reason gun aficionados are upset, is that Metcalf’s meanderings on “reasonable” gun control will only serve to provide ammunition to those who want more gun control. Already the folks over at the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence are crowing. The New York Times is using this incident to compare gun owners to wife beaters. And the left leaning press from New York Magazine to Gawker to Slate to the Huffington Post are talking about how even the slightest amount of debate on guns is unacceptable to us gun nuts. Yeah, it is and do you want to know why? Because any compromise gun owners make just elicits calls for more compromises. Gun owners have given up too much on gun control already. Most of us want less control, not more.

Indeed.  We have given up too much to gun control.  The last thing we need are more Quislings who support anti-gun candidates who will further decimate our right to keep and bear arms writing for the National Rifle Association and other gun magazines.

We have plenty of pro-Hillary and anti-firearms rights people in the mainstream media. Do we need more in the gun media?

  1. Democrats own guns. If they didnt then gun rights would have been gone long ago.

Like you though, I don't trust Clinton with gun rights. That doesn't mean I like Trump. The things he supports, outside of his supposed opinion on guns, are not aligned with my beleifs. This being Illinois though, I am afforded the ability to protest vote knowing that it won't affect the election.

Still not sure who I'm going to vote for. Most likely 3rd party.

  2.  "now I find that the GOP has abandoned most of their Libertarian principles and I now have more in common with Democrats."

Is he thus implying that the Democrats have some libertarian principles?

    What?  When?  How??

  3. He should find another industry to work in. And we should protest any company he writes for, like GunsAmerica. Com  that just wrote an article defending him.

  4. another money gruber trying to get a score form the Clinton foundation too bad he just sold his soul for a minute of fame!
