Hypocrite:

1.  a person who pretends to have virtues, moral or religious beliefs, principles, etc., that he or she does not actually possess, especially a person whose actions belie stated beliefs.
2.  a person who feigns some desirable or publicly approved attitude, especially one whose private life, opinions, or statements belie his or her public statements.
Right under the definition of hypocrite, I found this picture.
Johnny Depp.

See, Johnny Depp is rumored to be visiting the SHOT (Shooting, Hunting, Outdoor Trade) Show in Las Vegas today, rubbing elbows with all sorts of key people in the gun world.

Yet a dozen years ago, Johnny Depp eagerly lived in France and we’ll tell you why:  Johnny Depp thinks France is far more “civilized” than America, in part because of gun violence.

Paul Walfield wrote about it in “JOHNNY DEPP:  PIRATE OF ST. TROPEZ”

…Apparently the first amendment to the Constitution is at the disposal of the Left, but not anyone else. The Left can boycott, criticize and pretty much damn the government and country and anyone they see as a threat or even an annoyance. But woe to the person or persons who criticize the Left. For the Left, bad mouthing America is patriotic, but badmouthing the person badmouthing America, is downright treasonous.

USA Weekend.com ran a July 6, 2003, story on the “always offbeat” star of the new Disney movie, “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.” Basically, the story on Depp is a condemnation of America, its people and its place in the world. Johnny “loves” America, but prefers France. He moved there five years ago and has never looked back. You see France is far more civilized than America for Johnny as he is “shocked by the gun violence in American schools and feels it is far safer raising a family in France.”

Little Johnny prefers to “live a simple life” in France. According to the article, the simple life for Johnny is one in which he can “live as he pleases in a French farmhouse near swanky St. Tropez and choose which roles he wants to play.” Johnny also likes to go out and buy “$18,000 bottles of wine in restaurants, and pals around with Rolling Stones bad boys Keith Richards and Ron Wood.”

However, Johnny loves “France and [to] be living in a tiny village with nothing around. There is still the possibility to live a simple life. You can go to the market, walk about, buy fruits and vegetables — the things they did 100 and 200 years ago. We have moments when we’re sitting in our house and our kids are playing, and we look at one another and think, ‘Thank God we escaped.’”

Thank God he escaped.

Sadly, we can’t thank God he stayed there in France.

Our sources at the SHOT Show tell us that Johnny Depp loves three-gun and shooting.  They say he’s supposed to be there today, perusing the latest guns and gear on display and visiting some folks there.

This is the same guy who thanks God he escaped America and the backwards rednecks living in America.  Only now, he is back, and now he loves shooting guns.  It’s akin to the holy roller megachurch pastor who praises Godly values from the pulpit on TV and then goes over to his mistress’ house and has sex with the mistress and her husband after church.

It gets better.

Johnny sees the French as far more sophisticated and erudite than the backward Americans.

As far as the war in Iraq is concerned, Johnny only sees the ugly Americans bullying the world’s innocent and defenseless peoples.

…Besides trashing America, Johnny also has advice on parenting and family values, you know, the things we all thought about whenever we used to think about Disney. Johnny has a couple of children who he loves dearly along with their mother. However, he hasn’t as yet chosen to marry. Johnny doesn ’t think it is important just yet. He wants to wait a while so that the marriage will mean something to his children. Johnny wants to wait to marry the mother of his children, who by the way, he loves dearly, until his “kids are old enough to enjoy it.”

Johnny sees marriage the same way normal people view going to the movies. After all, seeing a movie is more enjoyable when you have friends around who also enjoy the night out. Marriage for Johnny, unlike us mere mortals, is all about the ceremony. Johnny is not getting married for the sake of his wife or for the sake of his children, but rather for the sake of entertaining his children. How sick is that?

So if you see Johnny Depp at the SHOT Show, pretending he is a big supporter of gun owners and shooting, remember that he’s just acting.

And feel free to call him out on his anti-American, anti-gun past.

  1. Hey, if he got (gun) religion finally, welcome him.

    Time will tell…..

And if he has a less than burning desire to marry, I can certainly understand that. I do not know his past love lives, but one bad marriage can put anyone off on the whole thing. I also don’t see what that has to do with his gun politics.

Lets not be so gleeful bash someone based on past ignorance thwy may have suffered from. Instead we should be joyful that the light may have finally been seen by one who was blind.

Of course, if they are “just acting” we will know……

    1. Oh he always believed he should enjoy the security and pleasure of firearms, he just didn’t think just anybody should have the right. Only the “Enlightened Elite” should have the 2A. Not the rabble.

  2. “And feel free to call him out on his anti-American, anti-gun past.”

Sounds like a great way to make him think the gun owning community is a bunch of a-holes worthy of his derision, whether he’s changed or not. Easier to catch flies with honey rather than vinegar, where better to bring an A-List advocate under the diverse tent of Second Amendment supporters than at the SHOT Show? We’re not all *God Fearing Republicans*.

  3. I’d have a lot higher opinion of him if he renounced those earlier statements which were damaging to gun rights and the shooting community.

You know, if he publicly embraced gun ownership and spoke well of his country, I’d welcome him in a heartbeat.

But I suspect his interest in guns is driven on by a desire to make his acting more marketable (in other words, it’s all about the $$$).

    1. I doubt that marketing himself to the gun crowd would make a difference in the ticket sales for his movies. He probably wipes with hundred dollar bills already. Maybe he will retract previous falicies if he is for real, maybe not.

Articles like this are not helping the 2nd any more than Depp’s previous (?) uneducated veiws and ignorant words. 2nd grade maybe…..

We can do better, and should save our vitriol for those who are still actively douches about the 2nd. Or for Depp if it turns out that this is BS.

And what does marriage have to do with the 2nd anyway? What is that bit doing in an article about the 2nd? Unnecessary, makes us look like the aforementioned A-Holes.

  4. Johnny Depp can take his candy ass back to France, yesterday.

I remember reading Depp’s appalling statements a dozen years ago. I was sickened. The same for all those other “celebs” and their nit-wit comments trashing America (Sean Penn, Danny Glover, and others).

I used it as an example to my then teenage kids about how to stand up for what is right by not rewarding those who disparage us as gun owners and our nation. Johnny Depp can go sex himself with a chainsaw.

Johnny Depp’s gonna have to do a lot of penance to earn any respect from me.

Give him hell in the meantime.

  5. Have been purposely avoiding his movies, and not sending any of my money his way. Ditto for a lot of other Hollywood trash.

  6. People grow and change – WELCOME HIM!!! What is wrong with you people – don’t make enemies where you don’t need to.

  7. Quitely ask him to explain his change from hatred of guns to his ” new ” outlook on guns. A confused mind will provide all the evidence of his truth you will every need.

  8. Yeah, he usually skews politically to the left, but he’s always liked and owned guns – collects them and often went shooting with Hunter Thompson. I’m also “shocked at the gun violence in American schools,” but that doesn’t mean I’m anti-gun or 2nd Amendment, quite the contrary. And he’s lived with his kids in LA since the mid-2000s, since that’s where his work is. He hasn’t set foot in France for the last couple of years.

  9. Johnny Depp has been an active shooter for years. A professional acquaintance of mine, a retired Army officer, has a place near Aspen where we’ve hunted elk. His closest neighbor and drinking buddy was Hunter S. Thompson until he died. Thompson was a good friend of Depp and the three of them often went shooting on Thompson’s property when Depp was there visiting. I don’t know what Depp said about America but I do know from personal knowledge that at least as far back as about 2004 or so, both Thompson and Depp loved shooting, owned firearms and weren’t amateur shooters.
