“Common sense gun control” explained at last

October 3, 2012

Redress Information & Analysis (no, we’re not going to link to them and drive traffic to them) proudly and robustly proclaims it exposes “injustice, disinformation and bigotry”.

Like many things on the internet, just because you claim it doesn’t make it true.

In a recent hit piece on civil rights, Graham Peebles writes that common sense gun control is to “Stop selling guns, call for all weapons in circulation to be handed in to police stations and make holding firearms illegal, unless they are intended for sport. This common-sense approach would drastically reduce gun crime, individual homicides and mass killings. It is, President Obama, the right thing to do and the ‘common-sense’ approach.”  (Hat tip to The Truth About Guns.)

Didn’t formerly Great Britain try that not so long ago.  And what has happened to crime in Great Britain?

Silly us!  The UK Daily Mail reported that Violent Crime is worse in Great Britain than the US.

How bad is it?

Great Britain’s gun control is so Draconian that their Olympic shooting team had to leave the country to practice for their sport. It is a small price to pay for the crime-free society in the U.K., right?
Graphic courtesy UK Daily Mail.

So Graham wants to export his “crime control” model to the U.S.A.?  By the way, the USA’s violent crime rate per 100,000 is 466, or approximately a bit less than 1/4th the UK’s rate of violence.

Now, who in the world is this rocket scientist Graham Peebles?  The Redress website lists him as “Director of the Create Trust, a UK registered charity supporting fundamental social change and the human rights of individuals in acute need.”

Fundamental social change?  Sounds like dog-whistle code for something that makes the Daily Kos seem somewhere right of Mark Levin in the political spectrum. Reading over the credentials of their contributors and suspicions are affirmed and validated.

Peering over the rest of the list of authors published on Redress (no, we’re surely not going to drive traffic to that , the place is about as philosophically moderate as Mahmoud Ahmadinejad).  They include authors who claim the following in their bios:  a tweeter, an anti-racism campaigner, author of Clash of Civilizations: Iraq, Iran and the Plan to Remake the Middle East and Disappearing Palestine: Israel’s Experiments in Human Despairauthor of The Rape Of Palestine: Hope Destroyed, Justice Denied, Tracking Deception: Bush Mid-East Policy, a participant in a number of humanitarian trips, author of Israel’s Occupation, British human rights activist, author of the book Radio Free Palestine, which tells the plight of the Palestinians under occupation and a lecturer in management and marketing.

What an all-star cast of misfits.

Graham and his “Peeples” must have never bothered getting out of bed to attend history class – or perhaps many other classes.

There was a time in mankind’s history when the common man was disbarred from the possession, use and ownership of weapons.

That time was the Medieval times.

It wasn’t a pretty time – certainly not for civil liberties, freedom or anything remotely like we have today.  A vast majority of us do not wish to return to the Medieval times, Graham.

    Could it be Graham “Crackers”?

I suggest this hotshot and his “Peeples” come and get them, themselves. They seem to think they got the handle on what to do. Try it. See what happens.

There is no such thing as common sense gun control. Just another liberal talking point that will get someone killed because they ban tools that is needed to protect one’s home.
