Obama releases the much touted Executive Orders on guns.  For days, Obama and Vice-President Biden have been doing their best to paint a stern face and tell America how they are going to act to prevent evil lunatics from going on a rampage.

What a farce they turned out to be.

So, were they bans on full-capacity magazines, interstate sales of ammunition and semi-auto bans?

Hardly.

The most substantive one we saw was an executive order to implement the NRA’s suggestion of putting police officers in schools!  The same idea he panned as wrongheaded a week ago!

The rest of it is to do more of the same, and to “study” and to launch “dialog”.  Translation:  Hot air.

It’s what Obama’s good at.  Just like hope and change.

Here they are.  Courtesy of Weasel Zippers.  Who got it from the Guardian.

1. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system.

2. Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system.

3. Improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system.

4. Direct the Attorney General to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks.

5. Propose rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun.

6. Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers.

7. Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign.

8. Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission).

9. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations.

10. Release a DOJ report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make it widely available to law enforcement.

11. Nominate an ATF director.

12. Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper
training for active shooter situations.

13. Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime.

14. Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.

15. Direct the Attorney General to issue a report on the availability and most effective use of new gun safety technologies and challenge the private sector to develop innovative technologies.

16. Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes.

17. Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities.

18. Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers.

19. Develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education.

20. Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover.

22. Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations.

  1. some of those I thought were already in place anyway… most of the rest sound like just hollow garbage to make the lefties feel good. A new ‘assault weapon ban’ will be very difficult to get through the House, as will the magazine restrictions.

I think most of our worries are going to be with Springfield, not Washington.

    1. trouble always comes from Chicago.. then it manifests itself in Springfield.

I’m still surprised Michael Madigan hasn’t been caught in some kind of prosecutable offense yet. Guess he’s greasing the right palms in the Justice Dept.

  2. Watch out for the health care directives. As the government consolidates control over the health care system, your doctor could become the government’s eyes and ears peering into your life.

    1. the health care law is all tied up with the IRS also… lots of Big Brother possibilities there.

  3. So let me (@) see if I get this…. if I encounter a bad gun out to do destruction and I did have to protect myself, my family, my friends, my neighbors and children, I can only have 10 round magazines to attempt to secure myself, my family, my friends, my neighbors and children from a bad guy!!!

    1. only 7 rounds in New York. If you get caught with more than 7 rounds in your magazine, it’s a misdemeanor. (I’m sure that will stop a lot of school shootings)

  4. I fear that 4 and 21 will be used to target veterans as we are the “enemy” as it is already with this administration. Especially those who claim PTSD and seek treatment instead of the rampant suicide that current and former soldiers have been resorting to.

  5. Regulations tend to have unintended consequences and quite often the supposed cure is much worse than the disease. I would not be surprised if people, veterans included, chose not to get treatment due to the fear of being deprived of their human and constitutional rights. Then, there is a very real possibility of abuse, especially if there’s no judicial process involved. Under Khrushchev and Brezhnev it was no longer fashionable to execute people indiscriminately or to imprison them in massive numbers. However, it was still very much OK to declare them mentally ill, which accomplished the same goal. If you question the party line (which, by definition, is always correct), you must be incapable of rational thought. Back then, the stock diagnosis was schizophrenia, now it may be PTSD.
