So the President has signaled the federal government will be sending in National Guard and ICE agents to apprehend and deport violent illegal aliens and help quell violence in Chicago.
Seems like a good idea. It seemed to work quite well in LA and Washington D.C. despite Democrats crying large and loud in the media- and doing nothing else of course.
They hope a liberal federal district court judge ruling this week on the LA deployment of National and Guard and Marines will somehow prevent ICE from coming to Chicago for active roundups of criminal illegal aliens.
Well, the Governor J.B. Pritzker, a man of large appetites, and not much else, responded back about being all buttocks hurt the federal government would be turning up the heat in Illinois and Chicago, the carnage capital, in particular and said “terror and cruelty is the point, not the safety of anyone living here.” OMG. Getting criminals off the street is exactly the point. “Terror and cruelty?” Not so much.
One local Democrat in the media yesterday was bemoaning how awful ICE is and how they will be breaking up picnics. (By gum she’s right, it’s right there in the ICE manual- in the chapter right after the one on terror and cruelty- Ch. 2. Always break up picnics!)
Pritzker’s comment earlier this year about how ICE would have to go through him first looms largest via his physical girth, and not his legal standing. He also fears ICE operations are just a disguise to target Mexican Independence Day celebrations. Yes, he really said that. (Wait, do we still get mail on Mexican Independence Day? Are the banks closed?)
Chicago’s self-anointed blanket of immunity title “Sanctuary City” of course has no legal standing, and there is no formal legal definition of a sanctuary city- and the application varies from place to place. Despite much liberal hand wringing, there is no ignoring the Supremacy Clause of the Constitution anymore. Federal law supersedes state law unless specifically reserved or stated and Immigration Law can be enforced by the federal government no matter what your state and local governing bodies want to pretend about how they can ideologically resist.
With even more bluster than usual, the move to bring concentrated ICE enforcement to Chicago, was swiftly condemned by Pritzker as “un-American,” “unconstitutional,” and tantamount to a military invasion. Puh-lease. He is also bemoaning how the White House has not reached out to him directly- even after he has made all sorts of bloated comments about anti-ICE operations whenever he can find a microphone, now they don’t want to talk to him. Amazing. They will do their job without good old J.B. who would very much like to be seen as a Democrat star and potential presidential candidate.
The mayor of Chicago has taken similar blustery stances also not admitting there are any crime or violent illegal alien problems in the city… but if in fact there were any such problems and if the Fed would just give many millions of dollars to Chicago he could straighten it all out.
Dems point out the murders are down in Chicago over last year’s numbers, so see, we don’t need any enforcement help (but we would like some more money). This of course pales next to the Labor Day statistics of 8 killed and 54 shot in the “mostly peaceful city” over the three-day weekend and 1374 people shot so far in the first 8 months of 2025 and 293 homicides.
Trying to argue how it is better this year and there is no problem, is a farce when you still had almost 300 murders and the rate is larger than NYC and LA murder rate combined. A dumpster fire is a dumpster fire, no matter what you call it.
There will be continued squealing from Springfield and Chicago, but it won’t stop concentrated ICE operations coming to town.
