I found these while looking for some other images in our archive and thought I’d share.
This August marks the 11th year since Michael Brown learned the hard way you don’t attack a police officer and attempt to disarm them without life-changing consequences. In Brown’s case, the consequences were life-ending as he found himself shot to death by Ferguson, MO police officer Darren Wilson.
We covered the story at length when it happened, calling out the “gentle giant” Brown for his criminal behavior and fighting against the mainstream and pop culture narrative that Wilson had his hands up instead of reaching inside a squad car attacking Darren Wilson, trying to strip the lawman of his sidearm.
Again, for those slow on the uptake, the “gentle giant” Mike got shot repeatedly and died face down in the street after attempting to disarm a police officer.
We didn’t make a lot of friends in our coverage of the facts as we saw them. But then again, those criticizing and attacking us for reporting the truth were never going to be our biggest fans on a good day.
A few months later, at the end of January, I got a little card in the mail.
Opening it it, I found a short and pithy message.
That was pretty cool.
