Illinois: Ask Your Elected Officials to Oppose New Gun Control

Your Second Amendment rights are under attack like never before! Multiple anti-gun bills threatening your fundamental right to self-defense are in various stages of the legislative process in Illinois.

Your lawmakers need to hear from you NOW. Call them and urge them to oppose these bills and to protect your Second Amendment rights!

Call the House Clerk at 217 782-8223 to oppose these bills:

HB 1469 would ban the vast majority of standard capacity ammunition magazines in use today. Countless law-abiding gun owners who own firearms for self-defense rely on magazines that are over 10 rounds in capacity. Ask your state Representative to OPPOSE!

HB 1664 would allow people who may not be mental health professionals to anonymously contact the state police to suspend the Constitutional rights of individuals without proof. The burden of proof would then be on the accused to prove that they are not a danger with mental health evaluations at their own expense. HB 1664 is poorly thought out legislation without proper due process protections and is ripe for abuse. Ask your state Representative to OPPOSE!

HB 1465 would deny law-abiding young adults under the age of 21 their Second Amendment rights by prohibiting them from possessing or purchasing commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms, standard capacity magazines that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition, and .50 BMG caliber rifles. Because federal law prohibits adults under 21 years of age from purchasing handguns from dealers, this bill would deny them the firearms most effective for self-defense. Ask your state Representative to OPPOSE concurrence!

HB 1467 would weaken the firearm preemption law that has been in place since 2013. Firearm preemption laws ensure that fundamental Second Amendment rights are not diluted or distorted through controversial local policies and help prevent a confusing patchwork of gun control laws which make it difficult for gun owners to ensure that they are following the law. Furthermore, Second Amendment rights are guaranteed to all citizens, regardless of where they live. Ask your state Representative to OPPOSE concurrence!

Call the Secretary of the Senate at 217 782-5715 to oppose over-riding the governor's veto!

Senate Bill 1657 and House Bill 1273 would create an onerous gun dealer licensing scheme within the state. They go so far beyond federal law in its mandatory regulations and red tape imposed at the state level that they would almost assuredly force the closure of most firearm dealers and prevent prospective owners from opening new ones. Ask your state Senator to OPPOSE efforts to override Governor Rauner's veto!

Call Governor Bruce Rauner and urge him to veto HB1468!

HB 1468 would require a 72 hour waiting period for certain commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms and .50 BMG caliber rifles as well as prohibit their sale to non-residents. Current Illinois law requires a 72 hour waiting period for handguns and a 24 hour waiting period for long guns. The arbitrary distinction in this bill will cause confusion among firearm sellers about which long guns require a 72 hour waiting period. Ask Governor Rauner to VETO!
