A lot of gun owner NRA critics and cynics have been saying unkind things about the NRA following their announcement today.

NRA STATEMENT

The National Rifle Association of America is made up of four million moms and dads, sons and daughters – and we were shocked, saddened and heartbroken by the news of the horrific and senseless murders in Newtown . . .

Out of respect for the families, and as a matter of common decency, we have given time for mourning, prayer and a full investigation of the facts before commenting.

The NRA is prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again.

The NRA is planning to hold a major news conference in the Washington, DC area on Friday, December 21.

Details will be released to the media at the appropriate time.

The NRA is the big dog on the block. They do a vast amount of good in everything from training and education to political work. Better still, the other side goes code brown and yellow when they hear mention of the NRA (despite their lame public pronouncements about the NRA’s supposed impotence).

Frankly, at times it’s frustrating carrying the activism load for a bunch of keyboard commando slackers who nitpick to find reasons not to be part of the solution while they snipe at those of us who are.

Get with the program. Join and participate in this fight, and don’t just sit on your ass commenting on a forum or blog. That doesn’t do jack for our cause, particularly if you just want to complain.

Get your checkbook out and write a check with a couple of zeros on it, and I don’t mean the ‘cents’ to a gun rights organization you feel best represents your interests, in addition to being a member of the National Rifle Association.

Write letters to politicians, or write articles or columns and get them out in front of the public to educate and influence them on the benefits of firearm ownership.

Introduce non-shooters to the fun and excitement of shooting.

Participate in political rallies supporting our civil rights.

Spread the word to the less informed… shine the light of truth on the anti-gun lies out there.

Sitting around drafting the top ten reasons you’re too good to belong to the NRA does nothing to guarantee you or I will be able to lawfully own guns six months or six years from now.

C’mon out and join the winning team.

No, we’re not perfect, but then again, neither are you.

John

ETA: No, I don’t work for the NRA…

  1. When, and I do me when, the NRA stops compromising the 2nd Amendment I will support their efforts. In the meantime, The Gun Owners of America, Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership and the Second Amendment Foundation deserve support from all Americans who cherish freedom. We’ll see Friday.

  2. The NRA is not perfect! They make mistakes and do not meet everyone’s expectations.. That being said, they are the biggest gun rights group in Washington. They are heard by the politicians more often than not! Not supporting the NRA is like “Not voting for a Republican because he does not stand for everything YOU believe in”. We all see how that worked out! These issues are not just about your and what you believe in. There are much bigger picture issues at stake. Sure, don’t support the NRA. After the NRA falls and when your favorite organization come s into the cross-hairs of the Government don’t look around and wonder why no one is supporting your beliefs!

    1. Tyrants depend on fearful people like you. It’s how the game works:

“Oh, oh, if you don’t support us while we
‘compromise’ your rights away, you’ll loose
      them all!”

“We’re screwing you over, but if you refuse to
vote for us you’re just a self-fish person that
      can’t get everything he wants.”

“Would you rather have JONES back comrade!?”

      Enough.

  3. The NRA did NOT initiate the McDonald or the Heller cases, but as johnny come lately, somehow got press that said that. GOA did those cases and won. NRA was spineless until the small dog got the wolf to rule in favor of the Gun Rights

  4. You mean the same “winning team” that backed Romney(Obama the White)?

The same “winning team” who’s “Freedom First” nominees keep backing Gun-Control?

The same “winning team” who’s idea of “victory” is to get gun-control passed before it passes? (“Compromise” AKA sell-out)

The same “winning team” that helped with the GCA68, rushed in to increase the unconstitutional background-check system after the Virginia Tech shootings?

    THAT “winning team”?

NO. Either let’s see some true fighting for gun-rights on their(the NRA’s) part by pushing for the REPEAL of gun laws for a change -with NO “compromises”, or let’m burn.

    1. i believe that the second ammendment was written for just this.
compromise, compromise until all your rights are compromised away.it seems that a person who believes in the bible or the constitution are reqired to do by the media, this generation is nothing more than a generation of cowards.i am a disabled vet,and i regret my 8 years of military combat service…

    2. @ Freddy, sir i feel terrible that you feel that you wasted your time serving the greatest and most powerful country in the world, I am very greatful for people like you that are willing to put it all on the line for people you dont even know, I get very frustrated watching the big national news channels and listen to the reporters that bark at every little thing that happens bad with guns, i’ll bet everyone of those people are packin. Sir I am very greatful for your service and any military personeal are my heroes. It has to be very frustrating to you that after doing what you thought was right by serving your country and you have to listen to all the negativity about our rights as Americans, God Bless
