Sgt. Rachel Shir of the IDF.
Screencap from How to Defend Yourself – IDF Style.

We found this over at the Blaze and thought it worth sharing.

The Israeli Defense Forces YouTube channel has a couple of videos featuring Sgt. Rachel Shir, a 20-year-old Krav Maga instructor with the IDF.   A twenty-year-old instructor, you ask incredulously.

Oh yeah. And she’s not bad looking either.  But you best not accost her unless you’ve got plenty of frozen peas in your freezer, along with plenty of prescription pain relievers.

In the videos, Shir teaches some fundamental self-defense techniques that can be very, very effective and the simplicity of the tactics is something that should be readily remembered if you’ve watched the videos once or twice.

Furthermore, as a guy you should watch her for tactics as well as your entertainment, as a single guy walking alone is at least as likely, if not more so, to be accosted than a single female.

  1. Not impressed.

Might work against someone with no training, but if the guy was coming after her for real, she’d be toast.

    1. I think you failed to get the idea. Violence and speed are all important in self defense. It wouldn’t surprise me a bit if this soldier had actually used these techniques in real life. If you’re attacking, he’s defending; not you. It’s hard to get a good grip on a whirling dervish. Hand and foot strikes are for that “lucky punch” that just happens to stun the attacker for a split second. What you do then is up to you.
