The Gun
We’re giving away a Canik TP9SA Pistol for our monthly drawing gun!

What’s a Canik TP9SA?

Here’s what Phil Davis had to say about it a couple of months ago:

Up and coming star…
Canik TP9SA pistol

Phil Davis loves his .45 ACP cartridge and his Sig Sauers.  He’s been talking them up for…  a long time.
TP9

He brought something new to the meeting that he says is even better:  the Canik TP9SA.

What is this Turkish-made, polymer-framed 9mm and why is it so good that Davis is selling his $1200 Sig Sauer carry gun and replacing it with a Canik that nobody’s ever heard of?  Even worse, what sort of blasphemy has caused Davis to forgo carrying the venerable .45 ACP man-stopper for the wimpy 9mm?

Here’s why:  It works, it’s cheap, it holds lots of cartridges and it works.

Mr. Davis reports that striker-fired Canik sports a crisp 5.5-pound “single-action” trigger, flawless reliability, simple operation and a $350-$375 street price, there’s little not to like according to Davis.

Your humble correspondent tried the trigger on the Canik and it felt every bit as good as my everyday carry 3.5-pound Glock trigger.  Blasphemy indeed.

The TP-9SA is new.  Its release in the USA has happened in recent months and it’s an improvement on the TP-9 that’s been around for a while.

This new Turkish wondernine runs 18-round Meggar magazines, has interchangeable backstraps and comes with a decent Serpa-style holster and a mag pouch.  It’s also loaded with other features, including a de-cocking button that seems to be a solution in search of a problem, but it’s there.

Davis reports that he fired five hundred or a thousand rounds through his without even a hiccup.  It shoots straighter than he does and did we mention it’s reliable?

“For the money, I can buy three of these for less than that Sig Sauer I used to carry.  That’s why the Sig is up for sale,” he quipped.

In it’s desert tan configuration, it’s not bad looking either.

No, I’m not going to sell my Glocks for this, but for the budget-conscious would-be gun owner in this Obama economy, this gun might be the ticket to big dollar performance in a budget-priced package.

  1. The “extended” mags for the TP-9 also happen to fit the Walther PPQ! I suspect that might be there case here, as well.

  2. What happened to the meeting in Springfield 10/05????? We were there and the people there said it was canceled.
