It’s not enough that the gun-hating nanny-state advocates in New York City want to make gun ownership difficult bordering on impossible for adults, but they also saddle children will all sorts of inane rules about toy guns too.

If your kid wants a set of cowboy cap guns in New York City, they can forget it.

Guns must be brightly colored (think neon) or transparent according to NYC laws.  What’s more, they mandate that retailers in the entire state of New York abide by the Draconian local NYC laws.

Like they never heard of a can of black spray paint (but that’s probably illegal in NYC as well)!

NYC had enough spare time and investigators to conduct a months’-long investigation of a host of retailers and found some violations.  They reached a $300k settlement/extortion with retailers in recent days, including Walmart, Amazon, Sears/Kmart and sent threatening letters to plenty more.

Remember, it’s for your own good.  Or that of urban youths who have never been taught that it’s not a good idea to brandish any gun – real or play – towards police officers.

Viva La Nanny State!

Gun control is about people control, not guns.

  1. While it isn’t a good idea to brandish a toy gun at a cop, it’s also a bad idea for a cop drive up to and shoot a kid in the space of about two seconds before the kid even knows what’s going on. Equally bad for the 911 operator to omit the fact that the gun was reported to be a toy by the caller.

So yes, don’t point toy guns at the police. But police training should also be re-evaluated. Clear neon toys are a band-aid to cover up the militarization of the police.

  2. Well, these rules on toy guns are a small price to pay for living in crime-free NYC.

    1. Maybe Chitcago should adopt NY’s “war” on toy guns to reduce their “gun violence” culture (sarc.)
