While your esteemed editor has been enjoying the great outdoors during his extended Memorial Day weekend, there has been a ton of good news for gun rights (and by extension, bad news for gun haters like Michael Bloomberg and his paid shill Shannon Watts).

OPEN CARRY COMING TO TEXAS!

First up, open carry is headed to Texas Governor Abbott’s desk and will be awaiting his signature Tuesday morning.  The Texas Tribune had the best coverage we could find.

In a nutshell, passage followed a long, six-hour debate which saw Texas Democrats aligning themselves with Tea Party-backed Republicans on a controversial amendment that would prohibit police stopping open carriers merely because an individual was open carrying.  Opponents to the bill cast the amendment as de facto constitutional carry, but supporters saw the measure as a way to protect the Fourth Amendment rights of practitioners of open carry.  The amendment was passed over the objections of some die-hard gun haters and some Republicans.  Abbott campaigned for governor on a very public and very prominent pledge to sign open carry legislation as soon as it landed on his desk.

Another bill passed in Texas would fine local governments who improperly post signs prohibiting concealed carry.  It’s just another blow for local government gun-haters run amok.

ALABAMA EASES TRANSPORTATION RULES

In other legislative news, Alabama joins its neighbors in allowing a loaded firearm to be transported in a vehicle without a concealed carry license.

(Concealed Carry Nation) – The Alabama Senate passed a new firearms Bill that would allow any gun owner to carry and transport a loaded handgun in their vehicle without the requirement of a concealed carry permit.  Senator Gerald Allen, a Republican from Cottondale, stated that his Bill strengthens the Second Amendment rights of Alabama residents by mirroring the bordering States; none of which require a concealed carry permit for transportation of a handgun within a vehicle.

ARMATIX GOING UNDER

As if all that wasn’t bad enough news, the world’s only so-called “smart” gun manufacturer is going into bankruptcy.

Yes, Armatix, or whatever their name is, is going kaput.  There have only been two gun shops in the US willing to sell their product, one in Los Angeles, and another in Maryland.  Both shops faced sharp declines in business following news of their new offerings.

Andy Raymond thought he was going to make a bunch of money selling an unreliable .22 pistol that was a “smart” gun for not-so-smart users. It didn’t work out so well for him.

Fortune‘s got all the news.  Including news that Armatix won’t be able to participate in some anti-gun event because of the bankruptcy.

The timing of the development was unfortunate for the company. Today Armatix was to have been a key presenter at the first of five smart gun technology fairs that a gun safety group had organized to familiarize local law enforcement officials with developments in the area. On Tuesday, however, Armatix informed Rabbi Joel Mosbacher, a co-chair of the group, that it would be unable to attend today’s fair at the New Rochelle (N.Y.) Police Department because the custodian appointed to oversee the company’s finances had refused to authorize travel expenses, according to Mosbacher. The fair will go forward with four other smart gun designers participating, Mosbacher says.

A darn shame.

  1. Bloomberg just wants to be a dictator. He doesn’t give a damn about the little people and their families. If he was really “invested” in gun control, he’d start bankrolling it to the tune of a billion or more.
