Shannon Watts and her motley band of supporters love to claim that those who legally carry guns are just itching to use it “Dirty Harry”-style (or on other days, vigilante-style) at the first opportunity because of mental disorders and/or violent tendencies.
These same gun-hating extremists have been wrong in everything else they’ve claimed for the past twenty-odd years, so why anyone should still listen to them on this topic is unknown.
As if we needed any more evidence when everyday, millions upon millions of concealed carry licensees carry their guns without incident across America. There are no mass killings by licensed gun carriers, no shootouts over waiting in line at check-out lanes or gunplay over parking spaces.
Yet Shannon Watts and her ilk keep playing the same Chicken Little “The Sky is Falling” meme and how increasing gun ownership is creating incredible danger. How unhinged are these people?

The words from the self-professed ‘Professor of Killology‘ Dave Grossman were as clear as day.

Just the beginning, that this nation was raising a generation which would turn to gunfire. He then turned to other mass shootings, ones the NRA used for marketing purposes, it became even more clear that the entire seminar, titled “Sheepdogs! The Bulletproof Mind for the Armed Citizen” was just a sales pitch designed to convince people to buy more guns.
…Indeed, his proposal is to add more unaccountable, corruptible police officers, arm them heavily, then give them access to the most innocent among us. Even as evidence piles up that the police have lost their legitimacy, to demand expanding their strength, in huge numbers, is not only unwise, but incredibly dangerous.
Of course, this no-name’s piece was circulated by fringe lunatics via social media as some sort of affirmation of their flawed beliefs, including to the Facebook page of a small-town newspaper reporter who wrote some pretty ugly things about Guns Save Life’s Pontiac meeting.
No mention was given in the addictinginfo.org piece to the proliferation of concealed carry licenses in the past twenty-odd years and how now over 5% of Americans have one of these licenses (11.1 million+) or lives in one of four (soon to be five) states that require no license for a law-abiding resident to carry a concealed firearm. (Other states, such as Kentucky, require no license to open carry.)
Since 2007, concealed carry licensees have grown 130%, murder rates have declined 22% and overall violent crime has also decreased 22%.
The violent crime rate today is down sharply in the past twenty years, despite record firearms sales and an every burgeoning percentage of Americans who own guns. Don’t think there are new gun owners? Guess again. Illinois FOID cards have grown from 1.2 million in 2008 to 1.8 million in 2014. That’s a whopping 50% growth in six years. As for the crime, don’t take our word for it, here’s CNN:
The new study found U.S. firearm homicides peaked in 1993 at 7.0 deaths per 100,000 people. But by 2010, the rate was 49% lower, and firearm-related violence — assaults, robberies, sex crimes — was 75% lower in 2011 than in 1993, the study found.

As if you need yet another example of just how wrong they are about concealed carry licensees trigger-happy nature comes this story. An African-American concealed carry licensee offered to help an older woman to her car when she was uncomfortable with a large group of “rowdy” youths flashing gang-signs and acting like idiots in a parking lot outside.
He got the woman to her car, and then was sucker-punched by one of the hooligans.
They then swarmed him as show in this graphic video. The young black teens are lucky he didn’t start shooting and he notes that in the report.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (CBS News WARNING AUTOPLAY VIDEO) — Memphis police say a large group of high school students swarmed a BP gas station and beat a man, according to CBS affiliate WREG.
Orrden Williams, Jr., the man seen in the surveillance footage being beaten, told the station that one of the kids “sucker punched” him. He had reportedly been helping an older woman to her car, after saying that she didn’t feel safe when the crowd began coming into the parking lot.
“As we get to the car, they are in the parking lot — throwing up gang signs and putting up a ruckus,” Williams told WREG.
After he was punched in the head, he began to rush to his car to protect his baby, according to the station. He also says that he considered using his gun to protect his family.
The restraint shown by this man was admirable, and then some.
Well they did get it half right on what Col.Grossman said we are raising a generation of mass killer, and the part they forget to include is most of them haven’t touched a real firearm until they use it just prior to the attack,but they train for hours on simulator games the firearm is the tool it did not create the killer.
I think the above picture shows/proves the insanity that has become our nation.
Will someone PLEASE explain to me this constant desire for violence.
And please this has nothing to do with guns, before the 1968 GCA we could buy guns through the mail without background checks, 4473 forms or stupid FOID cards.
Guns were everywhere and cheap, yet crime was low! This issue of violence has nothing to do with guns but has become a part of our national soul and it has got to stop!
ISIS is now on our border and they are running camps in Mexico. Half of the people crossing our border are OTM’s, they are coming from the middle east. I expect violence to skyrocket. So be prepared!

He has more restraint than me. I am 60, an expert shot and retired shooting instructor. I am a disabled Vietnam Veteran.I would have taken 14 for 14 that day. I would have been in fear of my life and or great bodily harm for myself or my family. I’m too old to be beat and too disabled to run. There are a bunch of me’s out there. Moms are about to lose a lot of children in Memphis.

They will do nothing of the sort. Once first round goes off, they will part like the sea did before Moses. These clowns are cowards, and rely on the herd mentality to run into the gas station and steal their bag of flamin hot cheetos. If more people would grow a pair and stand up to these human skidmarks, this nonsense would be much more rare. Once the excitement dies down and they see Pookie on the ground with an extra hole or two, then the fun is gone and you can bet your life has changed forever. Memphis is the most awful of cities. I made the mistake of going there once…. and I was wheels up and gone in an hour…. never again.
